Routing Via Gascoigne Wood 25/06/2018 at 15:59 #109927

Hi all,

I have a freight train (6N73) that has been sent by Doncaster 30 mins early, with a VTEC express (1S30) stuck behind it. 6N73 is timetabled to York (and beyond) using the ECML. Can I route this via Gascoigne Wood and Church Fenton to release 1S30 behind it? The traction is fine, but would drivers possess the route knowledge to take that route? Would there be any other things to take into account by sending the train that way?

Thanks!

Mark (Gwasanaethau)

If you did I 'd doubt if that that that train would re-enter at Church Fenton. The train may take the route instead of ringing in saying wrong route set, but wouldn't re-appear at Church Fenton as I doubt that there are any rules or tt data in the timetable you are running to cover that possibility.

If I remember correctly, there is some off-screen trackage for trains routed that way, but as 58050 said, the timetable might need amending for the train to actually run that way instead of simply dropping off the sim after Gascoigne Wood.
Two million people attempt to use Birmingham's magnificent rail network every year, with just over a million of them managing to get further than Smethwick.

In SimSig - provided you amend the timetable to include all the off screen timing points it will work.

In real life - itll depend on the individual drivers route knowledge.

This could really do with an early offer phone call like some other Sims as it's really unrealistic for a train to miss arksey loops and delay a class 1.

Thanks all for your replies.

I decided to bite the bullet and send the freight via the detour. The driver called up at Signal 947 (Hambleton South Junction) citing a wrong route towards Hambleton North Junction. I told them to bypass it, and they happily toddled off towards Gascoigne Wood. A few minutes after disappearing at Sherburn Junction, it reappeared (as I expected it to) on the Down Normanton. It never actually left the sim. I suspected this would be the case as the trains that are timetabled from Selby to York via Sherburn-in-Elmet never leave the sim either.

Just gotta say – fantastic sim and timetable. Thanks to all involved in researching, developing and testing!

I would say a feature like this deserves to be documented in the wiki, but it does raise some questions such as: will it work too when chained to Leeds?

There's more undocumented features in York though, you can interpose BLOK at signal 735 to let trains from Church Fenton enter on the Normanton Line. I have not tried what happens to trains calling at Ulleskelf when you try to let them enter on the Leeds line.

I imagine it'll appear on the Leeds sim when it reaches the fringe, and Leeds will then need to route it back towards York. Best to give the Leeds man a heads-up about it.

Trains don't directly enter Leeds, Milford signalbox (which controls Sherburn Junction) is in-between.

Timetabling freights like this via Selby Canal Jn is also possible, but wrong routes that way are not: I just tried it with a freight and it vanished from the sim.
