Many congratulations to the Aussies (and Kiwi) on here who have worked together, and put up with me, to get the two Australian sims ready for release. We're not quite there but they're pretty good in our opinion.

So, for a couple of months only, buy Strathfield and Moss Vale together for a specially discounted price. This price reflects the fact that more work is required on both sims and can be considered an investment to completion of the full products. Both are, however, virtually there and are definitely playable. We are also expecting a lot of feedback which may alter our approach to certain things - these are very different to the UK. The sims are only available as a multipack at this stage.

Within three months, perhaps earlier, both sims will be complete and the price will be adjusted upwards to reflect their finished state. They will also be available individually as well as a multipack. User who already bought the preview pack will not need to do anything except update via the usual method (i.e. no extra payment, of course).

As stated above, the sims are very different from the UK. There are two very good manuals for the sims available and they really are recommended. Moss Vale, in particular, requires certain unexpected actions to be taken in normal working, such as talking trains past certain signals, or requesting train orders. So please, please read the manuals before declaring foul!

Loving them so far. As with y10g9, I'm also having trouble wrapping my head around the headcodes. Is there a section in the manual I have missed that explains them, or is there any material anywhere that could help? I have tried googling but only UK stuff appeared!

At the bottom of the Strathfield user manual is a link to the Train Operating Conditions book. Section 7 of the TOC outlines how trains should be described. It is a lot more complicated than the UK system.

I think I prefer the UK system, if I had to choose.

Thanks for that Meld. That explains the bulk of the trains in Strathfield.

Here is a link to the standard for train numbering. It explains freight & coal train numbers. Sydney Trains/NSW Trains use the same standard for services in their area.
(Note: To avoid confusion, "Sydney Trains" and "NSW Trains" are the name of the state govt owned Train Operating Companies that operate passenger services in NSW).

SECTOR 2 TRAINS USE TWO NUMBERS AND MOSTLY USE THE LOCAL LINES OR TERMINATE AT LIDCOMBE.THESE TRAINS ARE SOUTH,BANKSTOWN AND CITY CIRCLE TRAINS.
SECTOR 3 TRAINS USE THREE NUMBERS AND MOSTLY USE THE SUBURBAN AND MAIN LINES. THESE TRAINS ARE WEST AND NORTH AND NORTH SHORE OVER THE SYDNEY HARBOUR BRIDGE.

A quick question relating to train numbering. Do the trains in the Oz sims change their ID when switching between passenger and empty stock? I ask, because there's trains I've seen in the Strathfield sim that have what seem to be passenger stops, but then go into Flemington depot.

In NSW, and in Metropolitan Victoria, the TDs do not change to reflect their status as Empty or Passenger workings.

Cheers

Question has been answered for NSW & Vic.

In QLD, they do change number.

I cannot answer for SA or WA.

In my OP I stated that the sims would be finished in three months. Unfortunately things happened, including hospitalisation for my son (followed by time consuming therapy which is still ongoing and costs me 1/2 a workday twice a week), so we're a little behind. For that I apologise and hope you understand. We are working to get them finished as soon as possible. For your patience we're working on some sort of token of appreciation (yet to be decided).

Thanks for the update Geoff, and of course I more than understand. Family will and quite rightly should always be the priority for you and everyone. Wishing your son a speedy recovery

Any news? Been about 6 months since the last post here.

(Even if the news is "no news", it'd be nice to have an up to date status).
