Hi all, I'm just getting into writing one of my first timetables (for the West Anglia sim) and there are a couple of tamper trains running about in the early hours. However, try as I might, I've not been able to find what they consist of and thus their lengths. Would anyone have any generic length for them that is about right? Likewise with speed - they appeared to move quite slowly to the worksite... All the best, Joe Log in to reply |

If you download the 'Length Calculator' you'll find a tab on that lsberlled Track Machines which has a few different tampers & other track machines listed.

For the speed of tampers, I have found specifications on the tampers that Network Rail use here https://www.volkerrail.co.uk/en/plant/otm-sc-tamper Unfortunately this does not include length but judging by the images i estimate it to be about 2 train cars in length. What headcodes are they? I will be able to look up which machines they are as each individual tamper/stone blower etc always keeps the same headcode. once I know which machine it is i can get you length and max speed (Which only applies outside of engineering possessions)

I use a default 20m at 60mph for Tamper/Track Machine movements in my timetables. Most of the workings seen around Carlisle/Preston end are 6T4*, 6J**, 6U**.
