Hi, Is there any way to manaully activate a license? I've just purchased Birmiingham New Street, but I can't access the License Manager (or indeed use the automatic update feature) because I always get a "Failed to connect to server" message. Looking through previous posts, it seems it's something on my machine that's blocking the connection. I can load the License Manager fine on a laptop, just not my main PC. I've tried disabling anti virus and the firewall, but i still can't get into the License Manager and I don't know what else to try. Log in to reply |

Is the machine Windows 7, or is it older than that?

Windows 7. I saw another post where someone created a new user account on their PC and was able to access the License Manager, so I might try that. I've also tried connecting to a different network (4G via my mobile phone) and still couldn't connect, so it clearly must be a setting on my PC somewhere that isn't connected to antivirus or firewall. New account didn't work. I don't really know where to go from here short of a complete re-install of Windows which I would prefer not to do as I have so many programs and games set up.

Unfortunately you will need to resolve the connection issue, there is no way to activate a license otherwise. Make sure windows is up to date, and your anti virus and firewall is not blocking the application. Windows is up to date, and this problem occurs even when anti-virus and firewall are turned off. I'm not sure what else I can do? Have I just wasted £30 on New Street then? Log in to reply |

Have you had a good look through the rules in windows defender? I'm mentioning this as I had a similar problem to yours, and eventually found that something (an update maybe?) had deleted a lot of inbound rules from the Firewall & Network Protection/advanced settings in Windows defender, including Simsig Loader rules. Solved it!! I had to enable all the SSL and TLS options in Internet Explorer (I don't even use it - I use Firefox) and now everything seems to be working (Update and Licence Manager). I guess IE can control connections in Windows that Simsig needs but that Firefox can get around. Thanks for the help all! If anyone comes accross this in the future - the relevant options are in IE in Tools > Internet Options, Advanced Tab and scroll down to the Security section. www.SimSig.co.uk won't be accessible in IE if the correct options are not selected. Sorry, just noticed this. Yes, the website I think is using TLS 1.1 / TLS 1.2 neither of which are enabled by default on Windows 7.
