I am a little confused by the operation of freight trains. I am a new user and I am working through the Royston simulation and thoroughly enjoying it. I encounter my first freight train 6R02 which enters from Baldock, proceeds to signal K246, reverses and goes past Sherriff's Siding where it disappears from my view. Then later we encounter 6T41. Just curious, is this actually that same locomotive now coming out with different freight cars? The timetable says it is coming from the grain siding. And it says it will depart Royston at 8:49 and Shepreth at 8:55. I've included a diagram showing two possible routes I am supposing it might take. Is one of those routes correct or does it go via some other route? Or is it up to my discretion? Thanks for any information! Post has attachments. Log in to view them. Log in to reply |

It will have entered the siding and the driver changed ends. The driver should now be waiting for the shunter to send it into Sherriff's Siding; you need to tell the shunter to do that. You can't see it in the Down Siding because that's not track-circuited. If you use the F2 key to bring up the train list, you'll probably find it waiting there. bleahy48 in post 112262 said: No, it's a completely different train. If a train came out of Sherriff's, it could be the same loco and wagons, having rearranged itself in the siding (which has more than one track). Or it could be a different one (since there's room for more than one train). But you don't need to worry about that. The sim *will* complain if you fill up an external location (such as Sherriff's) and try to put in another train, or empty it and then try to take another one out. bleahy48 in post 112262 said: It's up to your discretion, though with the second one you'll need to involve the shunter more and in another timetable there could be a train in the way. I would use the first one unless I wanted to do something unusual like send a train into platform 1 at the same time as bringing this train out. Hope this helps.
