Hi, so for quite some time now I have been playing SimSig and enjoying it all the way. I am now planning to buy some simulations but have some questions about how the licensing will work. I have 2 installs of SimSig I play with, the main PC which has 2 screens and my external hard drive which I use as a portable install or for my laptop. What would I need to do in order to be able to play such sims on both? for my laptop its usually left in sleep mode with a sim loaded and I am unlikely to play the same sim I got loaded on my laptop on the main PC at the same time. Would only assigning the licence for my current play be a viable solution and deactivate it when I am not using it? If so then I would activate each time I want to play that sim and deactivate once I am finished for that session so that I am able to play it on my other install if I wanted to. Many thanks in advance. SamTDS - STDS | My comments are my opinions and interpretations and do not reflect on the wonderfull SimSig team. I am in no way part of the team. Log in to reply |

Yep, that's pretty much how it's intended to work, you allocate the license to the machine you wish to use to play the game. Obviously there is a limitation to that, which is that you need to deallocate the license from the machine if you want to use it on another machine. Which means you need access to both machines. If you are the victim of your computer crashing you can request that the license be unlocked, but obviously if you just wanna play the game around a friend's house using their computer, say, and you haven't deallocated it from yours, there's not much you can really do. However, in your case, that obviously won't be a problem, because you'll have both machines there and, anyway and more importantly, you plan to deallocate the license from the current machine when you are finished playing, which is a habit you'd want to get into if you intend to regularly use different machines, especially if you know you may not have access to both. yeah, I'l likely have my external drive with me wherever i go if its to a friends or with my laptop on a train. I decided to start playing on the main computer aswell so i can take advantage of the larger screen and dual monitors. Thought it would be a good idea to ask about it as there could be a limitation of number of activations till a human has to authorize it on the server which many software use such as fspassengers.

Can you plug the drive into your main computer? If so then does that solve your dilemma? Peter I identify as half man half biscuit - crumbs! Log in to reply |

There is no limit to the number of allocations if you lock/unlock yourself. However, repeated use of the request license unlock will flag up and cause delay. This is to reduce fraud.

Peter - yes but i have limmited usb ports that i need consistantly and windows 10 doesnt enjoy new drives too well while running on the main pc. my laptop it works just fine but main pc today i had to force reboot and then windows thought it was a internal drive. I (generally) only have one license per sim, but multiple installs in different locations on my machine for playing/testing/developing. My license applies whichever folder I load the sim from; however if I try access the same folder from my laptop I need to transition the license over. Log in to reply |

Can confirm this - licenses are stored in the Windows registry, not on the disk with the sim.
