Is it possible for a hosting session to be done on a 2 man basis with the server using a mobile hotspot aka using a phone?

Also using the same setup can multiple users join a session hosted over a mobile hotspot without using port forwarding as I have no idea if it's possible over such a connection.

Phones don't typically support port forwarding and you'd need that to forward the traffic to the computer on the phone's wifi network. But using a mobile broadband dongle for your computer, into which you put your SIM card, it could work. If your phone is rooted though it is possible to edit the firewall rules in a console (it's iptables just like many Linux systems use).

EDIT: I just read mobile operators generally don't allow inbound traffic to a phone at all, even if you do get forwarding right.

Another idea: you can use a VPN, if you can find a VPN provider willing to give you a public IP of your own, but technically that's definitely possible over the phone hotspot.

Would you still not run into the hardware limitation that phones generally don’t allow incoming connections?

If you use a VPN, you create an outbound connection to a VPN provider. That channel can then be used to communicate anything, encapsulated in the VPN protocol so your operator or your phone's firewall does not notice anything inbound.

I have a VPN set up to allow me to dial in from any device into my home network.

I have port forwarding set up on the home network to forward certain ports onto the machine on the VPN.

I then connect my laptop to my phone hotspot, dial the VPN, and host away.

The only thing I will say is it can be extremely slow if you're in a poor signal area.

I only have Internet access though my phone and as it stands torrents can be downloaded no problems to the PC which uses the phone as a wifi hotspot so wondered as Simsig has given me a IP address if I could host over such a connection as I don't have any other Internet connections I can use.

You would need to have port forwarding enabled, which in the UK is unlikely on most phone providers.
