Hi.

Been checking out Royston and got a handle on how most things operate. I was having an issue with 6R02 which has Royston K246 (Reverse), Royston Down Siding & Sherriff's Siding in it's schedule.

Firstly, had quite an issue finding which signal is K246. There is nothing onscreen telling me which is which, but the game sends messages referring to these numbers. What am I missing? Surely there is somewhere I can see this? Help?

I can get it into the down siding, after making a guess at which K246 is (the signal left of platform 2 facing up). I call the shunter and tell him I have a train for down siding (Train entering for Down Siding), and get the train in there. But after that I can't get him out to Sherriff's. I see him on my Train List (F2) and he's waiting but never gets out?

What am I missing?

Kind regards,

Ian.

There are one or two sims which have the options to show the signal numbers on the screen.

Very rarely are they included because they would take up a surprising amount of space and add a surprising amount of clutter. If you look at a real IECC, there's a kind of overview diagram, which SimSig seems to be modelled on, and then a kind of operating diagram, which is much more blown up in order to accommodate all the extra labels. Larger sims would become massive in size.

So the manuals (here is Royston's) come with signal number plans:

https://www.SimSig.co.uk/Media/Wiki/%2Fusertrack%2Fmans%2Froyston-signal-number-plan-v2.pdf

Also, if you go into the options menu, you can turn off right click cancels route, which personally I have always had turned off. If you do that, right clicking on a signal brings up a little menu at the top of which is the signal number. Of course, using that alone to locate a signal requires a bit of trial and error.

F3-> 'Control' tab-> untick 'Right click cancels route', then right click on signals to show their identities. The Royston manual also has a signal number plan, which labels each signal with it's ID.

Once the train is in the Down Sidings, you need to tell the shunter to let the train out of the Down Sidings towards Signal K249. Then, tell the shunter 'Train from K249 to Sheriff's Siding'. After a few moments, set the route from K249 to K253; the route lights will only light as far as the points for Sherriff's siding, and the train will move out of the Down Sidings and into Sherriff's siding.

Note that you don’t need to disable Right Click Cancels Route. Whatever you have that set to, holding shift makes it do the opposite thing. So personally, I like to have Right Click Cancels enabled, and then I hold shift and right-click around when I need to find a signal number.
