I think SimSig would work great on mobile, are there any plans to release a mobile version of SimSig? I have Linux computer but don't use it very often to play SimSig as much as I'd like to as I'm often at work using computer. I'm sure this has come up numerous times - appologies but I cannot find answer. https://www.rail-record.co.uk Last edited: 25/11/2018 at 14:24 by trainmania100 Reason: None given Log in to reply The following user said thank you: BoundedFriends |

I would imagine it would be quite difficult to play SimSig on a mobile device.

Some features indeed would not quite work exactly the same way... Playing with a touchscreen allows setting the routes from signal to signal rather easily, but not much more (you can't cancel them, can't quite easily enter a train ID to authorise a movement past a red signal, ...) Edit: I speak from experience, have a laptop with a touchscreen, and without a keyboard it would be mostly unplayable (or very difficult) except for what I said above. Wouldn't work on it whatsoever.

The idea seems optional. If it could then the options could be restricted to like iPads with big screens etcs. Touching a signal to signal would work yes. But for cancelling signals I guess you would hold on the signal which could bring an option up to cancel the route. As for TDs that could be like the same hold the signal to re enter a TD etc. Although timetable editing or F2 to view trains could be an issue. Aaron (AJRO) | Timetable Writer Log in to reply |

As Alex said, even a (laptop) toucch screen is difficult. There is a reason why websites for tablets have big, chunky buttons, and SimSig is not big and chunky.

Also, and specifically for iOS, I think the whole of the code would need to be rewritten because Apple requires a very specific programming language be used (last I knew, though it's not something I check often). Though, for Android it could possibly require less work... but that doesn't solve the other issues Last edited: 25/11/2018 at 16:26 by AlexRail575 Reason: None given Log in to reply |

I have a ten inch Windows tablet, albeit one with its own keyboard. The only decent way to play SimSig on it is to use the keyboard and a mouse with it. As Geoff states above the interface isn't really clunky enough for accurate screen taps, so where signals are relatively close together it is a bit of pot luck if you select the correct one you intended. I think the other issue would be you'd either need to do a massive amount of scrolling with a larger size, or have a small size whereby it would be very difficult to make out what you need to. It would be great to take this around in your pocket, but when you consider the amount of scrolling that you need to use to see opentraintimes.com and the risk of not touching a signal while scrolling too. It would be a challenge to develop the software and also to play it. As far as quality of gameplay is concerned, I think it would be a set back. The mouse, keyboard and PC interface seems to be ideal for this sim.
