Hello! I'm thinking about buying Tyneside IECC. I fell in love with the layout of Newcastle station. Unfortunately Newcastle isn't available as a standalone sim, as far as I know. The whole sim looks huge, and I'm afraid it will be a little bit overwhelming for me alone. Fortunately, ARS is available and that will help tremendously. But is there still alot of shunting (Non ARS) and trains without ARS on this sim? Would it be difficult to play this alone? Thanks! - Stig Log in to reply |

First tip id give you is to lower the 4 crossings and leave them lowered (take off auto) The rest is a balancing act. Its not really going to be enjoyable in single player with no ARS at all, its manageable but not sure its enjoyable haha also ARS gets you in some tight spots on this sim i think Log in to reply The following user said thank you: stighetl |

Tyneside is perfectly playable with ARS on singleplayer. It's my favourite single player simulation.

It is one of my fav sims. A real mix of services. I play it with slight delays running and with ARS . Biggest problem is freight entering at a number of points, much of it way early or late. Also you need to be careful around the loop at Newcastle central. Especially if services are late.

For instance you mention liking Newcastle Station, so you could leave the ARS to control the rest of the sim and turn it off at Newcastle and control that yourself. This is achievable single player. While Tyneside does have ARS which can run most of the job, it also has three level crossings that you need to keep an eye on. And of course they are all on separate panels... Kev Log in to reply The following user said thank you: stighetl |

Thank you for all your replies! I just bought the sim, and I'm loving it so far! I'm playing the 0000 start scenario, so not a lot of traffic yet, which give me time to get to know the area. I followed chrisdmadd's advice on lowering all the crossing and leaving them lowered. I'm playing with IECC ARS (Not extra ARS), but have disabled it everywhere. When traffic begins to increase, and my stress level increase, I will activate it where I feel it's necessary. Thank you! - Stig Log in to reply |

Here is another tip for you which applies to a particular timetable. Not sure about any of the others. I encountered a problem whilst playing the 2016 + Extras timetable at about 08:10 with Train 6N54 which was leaving Thrislington Quarry. Any trains that leave from, or are to be routed into Thrislington Quarry, must have their length reduced to 63m. I was advised to do this this after struggling to get a train out of the quarry and through the Ferryhill area. It kept disappearing off the sim. The advice was given in one of the replies: “6N54, is too long to reverse in the siding. Reversing via the hand-signal at ground frame 'B' isn't permitted, either by the rules specified in the manual, or by attempting to force the train to do so. For reference, 6N54 is 329m long, the train booked to do this move in the supplied TT is 63m. It's possible that there's a sim bug somewhere in here, but I suspect that 6N54 is simply too long for the location.” There was a discussion on the Forum after I posted asking for advice. If you want to read the post and the various replies, you’ll find them in the Forum Index under ‘Tyneside IECC’ in the ‘Released’ section. Also don't forget the 'pause' button. This will give you some thinking time. I also found that it helped if I slowed the sim down during busy periods.

I'd also recommend turning off ARS on the loop as it sometimes enjoys creating Mexican standoffs.
