The age of the installation has an effect, and as with all railway signalling there are always exceptions. It’s fairly common for banners not to be drawn on the panel or even IECC displays, yet still be proved in the Interlocking. On the Western Region, most banners were lamp proved in the ON position but not the off. For the signal in rear to clear the banner either has to be ON and LIT, or OFF but it doesn’t matter if it is lit in the OFF position. Log in to reply The following user said thank you: TUT |

On the Kent route there are places where even the auto signals are not lamp proved!
