Newbie here, I am trying to get to grips with Sim sig. I am on Gloucester and I am having troublue with the routes. For example 5B08 is at Gloucester Old Yard (no problem as to where that is). Its destination is SEED. My trouble is how do you know where SEED is and even if you did know how do you know how to get there. This is not the only route I am having trouble with. Sorry if I sound thick Log in to reply |

You are most likely looking at the description from the 'Train List'. To get the full description you will have to look at the timetable either from the Options menu or Timetable Edit. I believe in this case it says 5B08 to sigXXX or something like that. Seed's are basically what they say they are - something which becomes a full service and this is one way of getting a train to start a sim from where the working timetable says it should be at that time.

SEED is normally the description for a train which has to be entered into the sim in order to pick up a scheduled working. Each sim has only a limited range of places where a train can enter so you can't have a train suddenly appearing halfway between Cheltenham and Gloucester when the TT opens. You have find somewhere which the sim accepts as an entry point (like Gloucester Old Yard) and start the train of from there for the purposes of the TT even if the actual train would go nowhere near the Yard. In the case of 5B08, it is probably a device to get some empty stock into the sim where in the real world the stock would perhaps be sitting in Gloucester station from an earlier service. Other times a passenger service will appear in a goods yard, pull out onto the main line and proceed as if a scheduled service from somewhere further up the line. Hope that makes sense.
