Licencing - a minor relaxation 29/05/2019 at 14:31 #118532

As someone who has been a loyal user and customer (owning all the simulations) I would like to suggest that there is room for a shift in licencing policy to allow the extension of use of software on 2 machines per user name to overcome the bugbear of de-licencing and re-licencing. Even major software companies (Adobe for example, also with licence free use of versions on Android and IOS) in licencing their software allow 2 active licences per user purchase, recognising that users are likely to have both a desktop and laptop, or home and office system.

I use predominantly a desktop at home but also a laptop, it seems harsh that whilst a major commercial concern (not renowned for their generosity) allow the latitude of 2 active licences and SimSig do not.

Please could i ask that the powers that be give some consideration to this especially in these times when users 'flow' between multiple devices.

Thank You

SIMON

I agree, would be a lot easier to switch onto a new computer!

I have a setup at home that runs up to 3 screens using Multiuser on my home network. This works for donationware sims, but not for pay ware. I have bought some sims that I would like to use in this way, but would have to buy a licence for each computer that I use.

There was a mention by GeoffM in the shout box a while back of something in development to allow licencing over a LAN rather than per machine. Not sure what stage that is at. So I guess it's a case of watch this space.

I can confirm this is indeed being planned.

I'm not sure what the issue is that you having? You can use payware in multiplayer at the moment, the server needs a license but so do the clients.

The issue is that I play on my own using multiplayer to power several separate computers, The Computer that I use as the server is licenced, but the clients connected to it are me

It's probably just me but how would this work over a LAN rather then per machine in theory?

I've just never heard of anything being done this way...

In the ideal world, you would not need to know how it works, just that it does work!

Granted but that doesn’t explain how licensing works in general terms for multiple users

That's because I haven't worked it out yet.
