With many thanks to Alan Gilchrist, half a dozen of us spent a happy week travelling around the impressive Japanese railway network - yet barely saw a fraction of it, such is the size of it. Rocketing along Shinkensen lines at 186mph (there are faster but more expensive trains), to all-stations single-car diesels meandering through winding green canyons, to subways, to monorails - we did a lot! Also a side visit to Kyoto Railway Museum which for under 10 pounds was quite possibly the most impressive and hands-on railway museum most of us have visited.

The last few days were spent in and around Tokyo with the group doing mostly their own things, including a Samurai museum, another monorail, and the restaurant made famous by the Kill Bill movie.

Finally, on the last day for a couple of us, we made our way to the basement meeting room of the Moxy hotel near Kinshicho station for a small meet. Derek joined us here from Hong Kong where he lives, so a modest total of seven SimSiggers fired up the brand new Hong Kong East. Chaos. They're all fired! It certainly proved a challenging simulation - not just the new features and symbology, byt the frequency of the service too.

All in all, a very enjoyable trip so far. Japan really is a phenomenal place to visit. If you do want to travel by train, it's recommended to get a *Green* car pass which gives you a little more room in the Shinkansen and certain other rapid trains.

Glad it's going well.

I love the customised wall!

that looks a lot more clean and clinical than most function rooms in the UK.

Many thanks to Alan and all for organising the meet, the first one I've ever attended. Nice to put faces to names too. Just arrived back in HK Sunday night and really enjoyed the whole trip. Japan's rail network is amazing. !!
