Hello all,

How does one timetable a stop at Derby Way & Works Sidings?

I've attached a picture below taken from the Working Timetable, which is 5D81 empty stock HST from Nottingham to Etches Park Sidings.

As you can see it comes from Sheet Stores Jn, Spondon and then a two minute crew stop at Derby Way & Works Sidings and then on any line through Derby which then goes to Chaddesden Curve to reverse then into Etches Park.

Does this stop on the mainline at Signal 422 between Research Sidings and Etches Park? Or on the Goods line past Way & Works Jn since I can't find the sidings?

Out of interest is it a crew stop? If it's going to Etches Park after a reversal is there much point in stopping there?

Any help appreciated!

James.

they stop on the up/down connecting line or pilot line behind 425 or 425. way and works sidings was the name of the box there hence there being no actual sidings.

the crew change is likely for the depot shunt driver to take over

Hi,

Way and works Sidings actually ceased to exist many years ago probably before the PSB was commissioned. However, the Up and Down Connecting Line (and the Pilot Siding) were laid opposite the site of the former Derby Way and Works Sidings manual box and where the sidings used to exist so the name stuck. See the diagram here https://www.signalbox.org/branches/dh/index.htm and also here https://www.signalbox.org/branches/dh/wwdiag.gif

In terms of timetabling I would suggest a through line stop at "Derby Way and Works Sidings" and I'm pretty sure the train if the train is from the Spondon direction, it will stop at DY428. Should it not fit between DY428 and DY425, DY428 will have to be cleared and the train should stop just inside DY425.

Thank you very much!

I didn't even notice the Way & Works Sidings location point. Just done a test run with 5D81, as you say it stops just beyond signal DY428 on the points to the DGL, but the rear is clear of DY425.

Thank you for the help, most appreciated!

Just as a matter of interest, where you entered Derby RTC at the former DY423 Sig, marked as PWAY in Simsig, (which was referred to either as going "in at 423" or "going in under the box" ) the first two sidings (not shown in Simsig) adjacent to and reading away from the Down Main are Way & Works 1 and Way & Works 2. Entering the sidings at the location shown as 'Serco' in Simsig was referred to as going "in at 418" as the exit signal was DY418.

The entry references may have now changed since the resignalling.

Phil.

That is exactly the reason Joe.
