Trains stuck at 16mph 28/08/2019 at 01:09 #120236

Hi all,

I don't know if anyone can help at all but I have noticed recently with the LTS simulation that when diverting trains, i.e. for example from the up main onto the up connector at Barking trains seem to get stuck at 16mph for a good 1-2 minutes before actually moving onto the up connector, is this normal?.

Could be defensive driving rules as that route is approach released from red, and the 2015 TT (not looked at others) has a 33% speed limit upon passing a single yellow. But with the linespeed that would be 25mph, not 16mph. Do you have a saved game?

There is a known issue (#14866) where defensive driving rules don't seem to take MU speeds properly into account.

Two million people attempt to use Birmingham's magnificent rail network every year, with just over a million of them managing to get further than Smethwick.

Line speed on the UCL according to the sectional Appendix is 40mph and there is no differential speed differnce for MU's, so the max line speed for all class's and types of trains on the UCL is 40mph, the line is approch controlled, therefore the train most likely got a yellow proceed aspect so the driving rules are applied and 33% of 40mph is 16mph which the train will travel at until it reaches the next signal.

Um... 13mph, maybe 14 depending on rounding. But the TT I looked at had a minimum of 20mph on that rule. Unless OP elaborates on which TT was used, or provides a saved game, then we can't be too sure.

Whoops, not intentional on my part,

, though, and the Up Main on the approach to the UCL does indeed have a 50/MU 75 speed limit.

Also noted in that issue I mentioned is that the defensive driving minimum speeds don't quite appear to behave as expected, either.

Hi Geoff,

After playing around with it, it seems the only way around it is to change the Accel/Brake rate from High(commuter) to Very High (light loco, metro), to each individual train that you route onto the UCL.

This allows the train to then approach signal UR180 at a higher speed and therefore clearing signal UR176 quicker.
