Another timetable for Manchester Piccadilly, or rather its predecessor London Road PSB, is now available. This time for February 1971. Please post any bug reports or queries in this thread. It's a fascinating time for Piccadilly and Oxford Road. Passenger trains over the Woodhead route have ceased, but there are regular loco-hauled and DMU services to Sheffield, Nottingham and London St Pancras via the former Midland Railway routes. These are part of the services rather crudely grafted onto Piccadilly and Oxford Road following the closure of Manchester Central in 1969. The other servcies are those from Chester and Liverpool via the former Cheshire Lines Committee routes. These now route to Oxford Road and, for most Liverpool expresses, continue through to Piccadilly. Oxford Road is a strange place, as it has been since 1959. For most trains it is a terminus. Frequent electric services from Altrincham terminate there and must do so in platform 5, the only one since 1969 electrified at 1500 volts DC. The other four platforms are all electrified at 25kV AC and can accommodate the regular services from Alderley Edge and beyond, plus trains on the Chester and Liverpool routes. It's all rather awkward, but will be resolved in May 1971 when the Altrincham route is converted to 25kV AC. Journey times will, alas, be 10% slower and seats in the rush-hour fewer, but that's progress, as some long-suffering commuters will find again in 1992. For reference, signalling diagrams from January 1971 and a schematic of Oxford Road in 1971 aree attached to this post. There are other exotica such as container trains to the depot at Longsight and workers' trains to both Trafford Park and Irlam. It is, in all senses, a different world. Beware that new, weird decimal money due to be introduced on February 15th. It's not to be trusted! Fuller details and instructions with the timetable in the "General" tab. You are strongly advised to read these before using the timetable. I do hope you enjoy it. Post has attachments. Log in to view them. I think I'm going to enjoy this. Only 12 months before this timetable started I began my railway career in Cambridge sub-Control (a satellite control for Norwich) my first time living away from home and on my own. Fast forward 12 months and I transferred to Nottingham Divisional Control as a Grade B GP relief DMU and Passenger Controller. The rest, as they say, is history... Thanks for doing this! Hiya, First run through and have reached 0615. 4E81 0556 Trafford Park - Felixstowe shown 0612/32 on Longsight U&DGL to change engines is too long and stands foul of MP73 signal. Reducing the length to 200m appears to work. I have tried adding an FX to the timetable but its still doesn't get clear inside. The other trains which use the loop would appear to be able to fit - 8K81 and 4K64 are the trains concerned. VInce in post 121758 said:Hiya,Hi Vince. Yes, that's correct and working as designed. 4E81 was scheduled to be as long as Trafford Park could cope with (64 SLU or 1344 feet). Best plan is to route it into the U&DGL at Ardwick Jn rather than Longsight North. The other two trains are a general merchandise and a "half" Freightliner to combine with another "half" from Aintree FLT at Crewe. Log in to reply |

One very minor issue found while re-running the simulation today. Departure 3V09-1908 should have the "must wait until departure time" box ticked in its Piccadilly schedule. The only effect of this issue is that the TRTS light will come on as soon as the assigned haulage is coupled up and the driver will eventually ring up requesting departure. It will be fixed in a future update, together with any other bugs reported to me or found by me. Log in to reply |

V1.1 of the 1971 timetable is now available. The main update is a correction to ensure Mondays work as intended, ensuring MX trains don't run on that day. No other days of the week were/ are affected. The issue with 3V09-1918 noted in a previous post has also been fixed. One other help notice. Users should be aware that 4H27-2025, the evening parcels unit from Northwich does not run directly into Mayfield (Goods Loop). As per prototype, the train is scheduled via Ardwick Junction and then reverses into the loop. If all is working to time, a reversing Liverpool DMU (5F92-2033FX or FO) will already be in the loop. There is room for both trains! Log in to reply |
