A bit of googling brought me to this interesting thread from a few years ago, which includes this post:

This is the confirmation I've been looking for for a few days now. I understand, then, that back when St Germans signal box was still open, working AB to Liskeard and TCB to Plymouth PSB, it controlled the signals we have today (or at least signals in the same places, probably not the same physical objects) from a small individual function switch (IFS) panel. Today, on the Down, we have P70R just before Nottar viaduct, P70 and then P72 at St Germans station. Does anyone know any more about how things were in the days of St Germans? Did we have an SGXR, SGX, SGY type of arrangement, with two switches, one for SGXR and SGX and another for SGY with the signalling behaving very much as it does now, or did we have a more traditional SGX, SGY, SGZ arrangement, with a distant, a home and a starting signal? I assume the former, based on the fact that if everything on the ground is the same, that implies that when St Germans was in charge the second signal would have been a 3 aspect colour light at full braking distance from the third, so it would make sense for it to have worked then as it does now, but can anyone confirm anything more about how it actually operated.

If anyone has actual signal numbers I'd be really grateful.

I’ve got an old locking sketch somewhere which shows the signal numbers but since I’ve moved house it’s in storage.

Hi!

Ah well, don't go out of your way too much, it's just a matter of interest, but I take it the signals then were as they are now, 2-aspect repeater XR, 3-aspect stop signal X (at full braking distance from Y), 2-aspect stop signal Y (locked by the block (which of course today's P72 isn't))?

They were as they are now just different numbers.

Thank you, I appreciate the confirmation :)

The poor old box seems to be a bit forgotten and I've struggled to find out all that much about it. I really appreciate your insights, thank you

Have made me pretty convinced the down starting signal was number SG4. A tentative suggestion of:

Up line:

SG1R, SG1, SG2

Down line:

SG3R, SG3, SG4

Now seems very tempting.
