I’ve recently tried Run8 and it’s quite amazing, far better than other train sims, especially in terms of realism (broken couplers, defects, realistic brake operation), and I was surprised to see that it has a rather realistic dispatching as well. When simming as a part of an online community like The Depot you can be a dispatcher for dozens of real people, and that’s simply fabulous. It’s not better than SimSig but definitely worth a look.

Wasn't that the driving/operational sim with CTC panels? Yeah, I've heard good things about it, and the focus is certainly different from the latest crop of, how do I put it, graphically-modern sims with (allegedly) not-as-good driving physics and signalling logic. Signalling trains with real people in the simulated cab sounds good too. Did similar things with flight sims myself once upon a time and it was fun - actually it's kind of surprising how such arrangements weren't as popular with train sims. EDIT: And it's not the first time I've seen Run8 mentioned on gaming forums today - Coincidence, perhaps Last edited: 31/03/2020 at 03:27 by JWNoctis Reason: None given Log in to reply |

Yeah, that’s pretty much it, probably the most realistic train sim with CTC screens. I’d say that Depot+ it’s pretty similar to VATSIM, but for trains. People who run trains, do so in the most realistic manner possible, including correct horn combinations, signal procedures, etc, while dispatchers adhere to correct procedures on their end. Single player is fine, but online operations is a completely different experience. Running dozens and hundreds of trains, many of which are other players is amazing. You are asking SimSig to fund the space so that you can decide that something else is better and you can go and spend your hard-earned pennies on other software competing for the same sector of the leisure market cutting back on the revenue that SimSig might get. You think that makes sense? “In life, there is always someone out there, who won’t like you, for whatever reason, don’t let the insecurities in their lives affect yours.” – Rashida Rowe Log in to reply |

You think that makes sense? SimSig is not the first signalling simulator and isn't the last. I for one find it interesting to see how other countries do it. I have spoken with a few people who have come here from other signalling simulations, and have spent their money where they desire. Curious that the argument about the thread has now taken more space than the original conversation. Second sacros comments. This isn't a rival/replacement. US dispatching practice is completely different to the UK and these Sims don't appear the same based on a quick look at the website. If anyone has to worry its dovetail games. It is about the vehicle being used to pass on the message. Clearly those responding to this thread have different views about what is appropriate so we aren't going to reach any agreement. However, I would sooner that we have any discussions out in public. “In life, there is always someone out there, who won’t like you, for whatever reason, don’t let the insecurities in their lives affect yours.” – Rashida Rowe Last edited: 06/04/2020 at 16:39 by postal Reason: Edited to remove superfluous comment. I have unlocked this thread after there's been some time to calmly reflect. Discussions of other simulators are acceptable in this section of the forum, so long as they (a) stay polite and (b) don't turn into naked attempts to sell. Log in to reply |
