A 2020 Timetable for Westbury based in February 2020. This was quite a challenge with the amount of changes that have occurred in the area with the upgrades to the Great Western, they now have Electricity.

A lot of changes have taken place since the Westbury Sim was first published

A wide variety of freight dominated by Freightliner who now operate the Mendip Traffic. Data from GWR & SWR diagrams for the units, with GWR being the dominant player, and FL and GB for their services including consist.
DB still operate in the area as well as Colas

Timetable uploaded awaiting approval

Some freights have a line speed that does not correspond with their headcode. For instance 6V22 is a 45mph train which keeps accumulating delay as it seems to be timed for 60mph; and the opposite is true for 7C81.

I’ll run it through the tool at https://SimSig-tools.project76.net/ttdump.html shortly to look for any other speed errors.

Thanks

2V69 calling at Frome North Jn is standing ahead of the junction at signal 195, blocking the way for 2O70. Consider using another timing point to hold 2V69 (Clink Road Jn?).

Edit: 7C81 is longer than its description (744 instead of 623) so it doesn't fit in Woodborough loop.

5K07 leaves Bedwyn too early, it should wait for 1A72.

Analyzer shows the following:

All of the light engines have "can use goods lines" unticked and have "use freight linespeed" ticked, so may run at reduced speed on main lines.

The following consists have the wrong max. speed: 6M20 and 6V51 (75mp), 6V22 twice (45mp), 7C81 and 7F51 (60mp).

NO freight consists have "can use goods lines" ticked.

Thanks
Jamie

The "can use goods lines" box is there so that either a specific Cl.1/2/9 train or a specific type of non-freight consist can use goods lines. Other train classes (Cl. 3/4/5/6/7/8) can use goods lines by default even though the box is not ticked.

It is documented in the Wiki here.

The relevant test is:

Use Freight linespeeds - If ticked, the train will use speeds specified for freight trains, where applicable.

Can use freight lines - If ticked, this will allow class 1, 2 and 9 trains to use freight lines without questioning the route. Note- if 'Use Freight linespeeds' is ticked, this box need not be ticked.

Thanks Postal, that just leaves the 5 freight with wrong speed then plus lights not running at mainline speeds.

You also need to remember that light engines and loco-hauled restricted formations may be speed limited to below line speed. Details in the RSSB Ruile Book for drivers. The relevant section is here.

The text of Chapter 2.2 indicates that locomotive-hauled trains in the formation shown, or locomotives running light, do not exceed the speeds shown below where the permissible speed is more than 60 mph (95 km/h):

Where the formation is any number of locomotives running light, or one or two locomotives with one, two or three coaching stock vehicles, or three or more locomotives and any number of coaching stock vehicles running where the line speed is 90mph or above, speed will be limited to 75mph. Any of those formations running where the line speed is 85mph or less will be restricted to 60mph or the line speed, whichever is lower.

There is also information in the Chapter about permissible speeds with Mk.1, Mk. 2 and Mk. 3 sleeper stock in the formation.

6V60's entry time at Southcote seems to be off, entering an hour before it is scheduled to pass through Newbury.

That complicates things! I can't see any Speed Classes in SimSig for Light Engines, or for Mk1/Mk2/SLEP.

Why do speed classes come into it?

If it’s light engine set the maximum speed to 75.

If it’s loco hauled but only 2/3 coaches set the max speed accordingly in the train type.

It’s due to recess in Towney loop (between Theale and Aldermaston) for 41 minutes. Alas Towney loop was controlled from Reading (main) Panel not the Newbury mini-panel thus falls outwith the bounds of the sim.

If I found the current Rule Book stipulation and I read it correctly then where the line speed is 85mph or less the light engine speed should be restricted to 60mph.

There is one extra proviso I didn't write up before. Chapter 2.2 of the Speeds Module (GE/RT8000/SP) does include:

You do not need to apply any of the restrictions in this section to some classes of locomotives, if shown in your train operating company instructions.

Got some weird issues with up/down directions of trains. Train 5F91 doesn't reverse in the Trowbridge siding and calls me 'at buffer stops'. Train 6V07 spontaneously reverses after calling at Bradford Jn.

Edit: for reference I attached a save just pre-dating both events.

Edit 2: 6M20 at Frome North Jn also spontaneously reversed, hitting a red signal 414.

6M20 has a length which does not match its description - it is (edit) 21 m long but described as "315" (without unit)

And 0F59 should have the timing point Frome NJ (rev) instead of Frome North Jn. It now reverses ahead of the junction rather than past the junction.

7C76 is too long for the Salisbury spur.

I'm sorry for posting so many messages - the TT is great and most problems I was able to work around without any problem.

Perhaps Chrisrail and you could reach some sort of agreement that you test TTs of his before they are released so that these problems could be ironed out before going public.

Getting the return working to work was a bit complicated. I needed to add Frome NJ (rev) as reversing point, and then Frome North Jn as passing point before Whatley Quarry. Otherwise it would move off to Westbury.

Another minor point: 1V98 is standing with its tail outside the platform while joining 5V98. Consider changing the stopping point of 5V98.

Thanks! Found another one: there are two trains with the headcode 7C79, the first one (H99945) is scheduled to go into Woodborough loop but does not fit.

2A87 also doesn't leave enough room for its joining portion 2M34. In this case it means 2O98 is unable to arrive on platform 3.

I’ve noticed that this thread has been quiet for 5 weeks. (last post on 11th April 2020)

As I'm really looking forwartd to playing this timetable, I was wondering if the issues raised are to be rectified, or have I missed something?

Everything that you make will be useful - providing it's made of chocolate.
