On the old version of Simsig, I liked the start time feature when you could set a random time and seed the trains from a selected timetable. On this modern version of Simsig, I don't like the idea of having only 3 selected options (XX:XX (with seeding), XX:XX (without seeding) or custom without seeding). Could it be possible in a future update that we could see the old start time feature (as explained) re-added back into the game please?

I presume you are talking about one of the older TTs which does not have more than one seed group defined. You could never start such a TT at a time of your choice and have all the trains in the TT entering or seeding in line with your custom time; if you started at any time other than the default TT start time, only trains due to enter after the time you chose would come into play. If you wanted any trains that were in sim at the time you chose to start you had to seed them manually. You would also lose any trains governed by a rule that they must enter x minutes after another train has left the sim if that train had left before your chosen time unless you deleted the rule temporarily or manually entered the trains. The same will apply to one of the newer multi-seed TTs if you pick a time other than one of the options defined by the TT writer in which case all of the seeding, rule adjustments etc have already been written into the TT.

If you wish to start with a custom time, then nothing has changed with the advent of the seeding options.

When you say "old version", what version are you referring to and what version of the loader are you running?

As Postal explained nothing has changed in the start time options, just the ability to create one TT with all the starts present. The Multi Seed option was added to make it easier maintaining fixing or updating TTs. In the 08 04 2015 SX TT set with three seperate, starts if there was a fault/correction needed in the 1400 start, you needed to make the fix in both the 0000 & 0400 starts as well, not very productive at all.

There is nothing to stop you from adding your own start time and creating your own seed group for it. That being said, you must save your modified TT under a different name, The updater will and quite correctly overwrite any TT you save with the same name, losing all your work on any new seed group.

On a personal note - I will not provide or intend to provide support for any timetables that may have been modified by any user, many hours in development & testing go into my timetables that are bundled with sims, Three Bridges alone was at least 3 months in the development stage per timetable plus testing & retesting, even now the 2015 is only just ready to go out with the next update.

For timetables I expect to run through again in the future I tend to start it from the beginning with no delays or failures etc and speed my way through it, making saves as I go along at certain intervals like 6am, 7am etc. Then when I fancy starting a sim with that timetable again I can select a previous save at the time I want, set the delay / failure rates as I fancy then play away without the slow build up from the normal default 4am or whatever.

Just an idea that might work for you.

A timetable writer could include a couple of suitable saves from the final test run - with any minor tweaks. The downside is that those files would be stuck at ver 1.0 and miss any updates unless it was a major change and retest.

What I mean is that you can select a timetable for a simulator and then set the time you want to start the sim and have the option to either seed the timetable from that time or not

It has only ever seeded at the time(s) specified by the timetable author.

As others have said you can/could choose your own time, but it would not seed to those times.

You can always request it, if popular then it would be added back, it did used to allow you to set a time and tell it you wanted the seed trains but the bigger request from users was to allow multiple time points to start a game, not everyone wanted 0445.

But generally most people run from one of the seed times or a saved game, if you turned up for your games you would not need to roll the time forward to pretend you had signalled something.

The point of the seed is because there are rules and decisions for the services, and rolling time to a non seed means that those rules get broken and you end up with a very poor disjointed game.

Now more than ever the 2015 TT set seeds accross multiple sims allowing entirely captured trains to operate with no intervention to add missing services.

I'd forgotten that. Can you remind me which versions(s) of the loader allowed that as I'd like to dig back into the archive and have a play.

Well Edinburgh v3.238.2 does it
Anything up to when the multi seed came out was able to do it, so about a year back.

Loader v4.2.315 and 4.5.14 and 4.6.14 and 4.8.2 upto Aug 18.....
4.12 seems to be the last version
4.14 the seeding changed (July 2019)

Ah! I was misunderstanding what the OP was saying. Having played with a couple of the loader versions you mention I now remember the seed trains function in those loaders. You could pick whatever start time you wanted then if the seed trains box was checked, the sim would start at the selected time but with the seed trains written into the TT start time entering at the new user-selected time. I thought the OP was suggesting that you used to be able to pick a random start time and the trains in sim at that time would be seeded.

Apologies for the crossed wires.

To be honest, it's what I was thinking they meant as well.
