After getting to know that there are requirements for being allowed to list games one wishes to host on the website, I found that there is no easily found information on what you need to do to get access to that function. It would be nice to have an outline on how long you need to be a registered member or such that needs to happen before you're given those rights. Rocangus Log in to reply |

It's 7 days. The website will have a longer, more specific message than it does currently next time I upload it. Note that there is no restriction on hosting a game itself; it's just the advertising of it on this website for reasons already explained (shoutbox IIRC). It's always best to join a game to see how it's done as hosting is not as easy as it looks. Hi Geoff, What your opinion be on new users advertising in "Temporary Postings"? Or maybe a specific sub-section of the Forum? If it were there rather than on the "proper" games list you'd know it was likely to a somewhat 'experimental' hosting. Thanks Jamie Jamie S (JAMS) Log in to reply |

Unfortunately there was a bit of a period where several people (to remain nameless) decided to host games without knowing what it entailed, and without even knowing how that simulation worked. Essentially you have to know how to open ports accept connections etc, while also being the equivalent for an SSM on that Sim, knowing where things are, where you can shunt etc if people are confused, and also an Incident Controller/Train Running Controller to deal with incidents and create/amend timetables. It's still possibly a good idea to look into something that could reduce this, but also ensure people have the knowledge before advertising and hosting games. Log in to reply |

I've been on many a game where I (or others) are unsure about how to operate a particular set of points, or gain access to a yard etc, and it's far better when the host knows exactly what is meant to happen! Also people need to realise when they host they shouldn't always expect a panel, let alone automatically taking the most popular one. In the interest of fairness here, Just want to point out that there are no rules on the point that hosts shouldn't take panels. Any member can run a session in any way they would like to. It is up to the client to decide whether the scenario is for them or not and whether or not they will join that hosts future games. https://www.SimSig.co.uk/Wiki/Show?page=usertrack:ssrun:multiplayer:hosting Not everyone is a signaller in this forum and amongst that, not everyone will know how everything is meant to work exactly. I've been here 7 years and I am a tester, I work in the rail industry and I am still learning things...(both with Simsig and my work (14 years)). Everyone who joins this community has to start somewhere and without passing judgement on any new or regular host, again it is up to those who join initially to a session whether they would want to join again. The sims are meant to be fun, a past-time but also give an insight to how signalling works. for example, I wouldn't stroll into an interview for a signallers job and say I play Simsig so I am fully qualified to signal the real things. In closing, Anyone can run a sim to the best of their ability by starting off with the Simulation manuals. If there's something that has been overlooked and not stated in the manual then usual processes apply by bringing it to the attention on the forum where one of the team will endeavour to investigate and rectify as required. :) Craig. yes, I'm in agreement! on the picc game, last night Longsight was empty as the person on it had to leave so I took over, so think the host can step in and operate panels as and when they are needed if not enough people turn up etc. But i try and make sure to give the busy panels first, so when no new people appear the host can work the quiet panels if necessary and leave the busy (interesting) panels to the players!
