Following AJ's Request Here is Ely - Norwich (Both Exclusive) I've also changed "RAI - LWR - CLR" to OPEN - CLOSE and LOCK to simulate the manual gates along this line! Covering the Boxes at: Wymondham South Junc (W) A Small little box fringing with Norwich (may add a TD When I make Norwich) has a few semaphores, and the branch to the Mid-Norfolk Railway too! Spooners Row (SP) Another simple gate box! Attleborough (A) Another fun little gate box with X-over Eccles Road (ER) Again small block post + Crossing with a fun Private Siding! Harling Road (HR) Another small block post on something that seems a pattern on this line of small little boxes that simply passed trains through their sections and over their crossing day-in-day-out for their entire lives, and was a great shame all these boxes vanished in 2012 was a line lost in time! and a way of life we'll never see again :( Thetford (T) Another box but without a crossing this time! just a co-acting semaphore (it was only 1 of 4 remaining when it was in situ , though since then we only have 2 left!) Brandon (B) A fun little box with an IB to Lakenheath and plenty of sidings to shunt with plus a crossing to manage! Lakenheath (L) Formerly similar to Brandon but now a lot simpler Shippea Hill (S) The odd box that was leaning over! fringes to Cambridge and is all now colour lights! Post has attachments. I haven't been there since the resignallimg either, but I think one of the Sidings at Thetford still had a loading gauge. I've been doing some lists from Wtts of freight arrivels and departures from the mid 50s on a group.io, and I recently did both Brandon and Thetford, with Wymondham to follow shortly. All busy locations, I think Brandon had every freight between Ely and Norwich stop either for water, to pass or shunt the yard, which had over 10 freight to pick up/drop off. But that's a combined up and down workings. Stu Log in to reply |

Been a while since I've posted here but self-isolation is tough so I decided to make another! This time it's the south-west and its the line from the fringe to Southampton at Totton to Weymouth First, after the nice TD, we reach Brockenhurst (BH) The panel box has an odd layout for mainline trains plus the Lymington pier branch and would certainly not be a boring box! Next is Bournemouth ASC which has the long straight section with little to do followed by the complex station area and west CS so would also be a fun little panel! Now we enter the mechanical boxes first up Poole!, All colour lights and power points but an interesting layout Next: Hamworthy Junction this one is not so interesting and a shadow of its former self with just the yard as a POI Next: Wareham, where we see the Swanage branch and Bi-Di platforms which means it's a fun and quirky box to work. Almost there, we reach Poole which again is a normal box but the semaphore discs are a southern speciality and are "push-pull" discs meaning lever 12 when pushed clears one disc and when pulled clears another, a very odd arrangement! Finally is Dorcester South, the panel controlling Weymouth & Dorchester and another fun box to operate through simple. On the end is Yeovil Pen Mill, the quaint box working Tokens in all 3 directions to Dorchester West, Westbury Through Slots and to Yeovil Junc also through tokens! Post has attachments. There are token arrangements at Maiden Newton, using NSTR (Driver operates token machine so YPM signaller authorises token releases when prompted by the phone calls). Likewise at Dorchester West. Central Wales line (Hereford sim) has the same setup with stop boards and instruments, and the sim provides the special phone calls. http://www.railsigns.uk/info/nstr1/nstr1.html https://www.s-r-s.org.uk/videoPages/Esk.php (video) Esk Valley video shows Battersby - Nunthorpe released by the conventional electric plunger. Which other NSTR tokens are released electricaly as well as verbally ? Is it always just the one approaching the 'real' box ? Bill Log in to reply |

Been a while! But Here is another addition to this thread: One that took quite a while.......Leicester! Spanning the ENTIRE of Leicester PSB From the fringe to West Hampstead Right through to East midlands parkway and the fringe to Trent PSB! While also including the boxes at Croft & Bardon Hill, Plus all the mechanical boxes between Leicester & Peterborough! This is a BUSY sim and would certainly be a challenge to operate solo so I'd feel ARS would be needed. Notes; The sim is lovely & flexible (even more so in the modern era) with plenty of Bi-Di working and flexibility. Passenger traffic is healthy mainly with XC from Croft - Peterbourgh plus all the EMT local traffic PLUS all the freight it'd certainly be a challenge Post has attachments. Log in to view them. And while I'm here may as well post this I made a while back! The Bluebell Railway, in both its current state, and the future Extention to Oxted and Signalled Kingscote another simple little sim, would still be good fun though! The Brackets at Horstead Keynes were good fun to make, if not a little complex! I hope they look alright! Post has attachments. Log in to view them. Sorry Elliot but the extension if it ever happens is to Haywards Heath Not Oxted... Joins up with the Ardingly Branch on the Brighton/3Bridges sim and to make a sim of Horsted Keynes is brave, it changes almost weekly at the moment elltrain3 in post 141517 said: And while I'm here may as well post this I made a while back! Here you are AJ! The SVR from Bridgenorth - Kidderminster It's only a quick one so apologies for spelling etc I tried to get most right! I've added in some TC's at the remote boxes so you can visualise where trains are etc I also add the "main" crossing as there are plenty of footpaths etc but I've only added the main ones where a call might be needed. and some of the signal brackets and gantry's were good fun if a little complex to make but I hope I did them justice! I'm sure people will find any mistakes! never know some people from the SVR might even be on this forum! This would make a neat little sim, with complex TTs and Galas would certainly be a challenge on busy days! Post has attachments. Log in to view them. Looks pretty good. Pedantry unlimited here (I'd better watch my typing LOL)... No 'e' in Bridgnorth. Unless it's changed since I worked the box, the small arm bracketed off the 'from Stourport' home-over-distant is a miniature arm, not a disc (as per the left-most arm on the 3-doll bracket adjacent). Also, the disc shown on the main post of that 3-arm bracket has been replaced by a miniature arm. The up main homes at Bewdley South are actually located on the right hand side of the lines, just Kidder side of the Down Yard connections (in fact just beyond the stop block there). I'm fairly certain the line shown as 'Down & up loop' at Kidder is actually called the Down & up relief. (That gantry at Kidder looks glorious though.) It always used to be - and I've no reason to think it's changed - that Arley had an interesting arrangement whereby the Bewdley North - Highley token could be used to partially unlock the frame so it could be used as a ground frame without actually opening the box. That was to give the PWay access to the yard. There was also a mid-section token machine in the PWay hut, so you could shut a train in or start one from there. (Whether SimSig can be persuaded to make that work, on the other hand...) I hope that's more useful than critical... I'm really enjoying these mock-ups. Log in to reply |
