Hi guys. I experienced a really annoying bug that has set me back several hours in development. I'm curious if anyone else has experienced this. I was writing a timetable last night and put my computer to sleep. When I came back this morning and started my PC back up, Simsig had saved my game as a WokeUp.ssg (fine, whatever). I didn't exit Simsig or reload or anything, I just continued writing my timetable like I had been doing the night before. Another 3 hours of writing goes by and I go to close out the Timetable List and save my build....BUT...the Timetable List won't close. It won't close when I click ok and it won't close when I click cancel. I try to save the timetable by clicking Timetable -> Save As and it says you must close the Timetable List box in order to save your timetable..... So now I'm stuck. I can't close the Timetable List for some mysterious reasons and I can't save the morning's work I've done, so I'm stuck. I see the "Save selected" option and click that and think I've found my out. Thinking I'm saving my entire timetable after this morning's work, I keep it the same file name and overwrite my savefile from last night. Once I've done that, I'm still stuck in Simsig so I Ctrl+Alt+Del out the program. I go to reopen Simsig and reopen the timetable I had just saved using the "Save selected" feature....and....there's nothing. None of my work from last night, none of my work from this morning, no trains, no rules, no nothing. It's all gone......so I become infuriated. I've wasted hours of writing a timetable to lose it all to a silly Simsig bug and me choosing the same file name and overwriting my progress...... I've opened the WokeUp.ssg and saved that timetable under a different filename so now, I atleast have everything I did until last night....but all of this morning's work has been lost because I simply wasn't able to close out the Timetable List. Has anyone else been stuck on the Timetable List?? I know I goofed myself by overwriting my own savefile, but being put into position in the first place was really baffling. Idk if it's just a bug with Simsig or if there's something I just don't know about. Please help.....I guess I'll get back at the writing again.... Log in to reply |

Sorry you've lost your progress, that's always disheartening. I believe I may have experienced something similar when trying to close the F4 timetable list. Pressing OK, cancel and the close button in the top right didn't work, as I recall, the list kept reopening itself every time. However, hitting Esc on the keyboard did close it down (I think it was that way round. One of the four did work anyway.) Log in to reply The following user said thank you: Newhampshires |

When you came back, did you cancel the popular window that confirms. Workup.ssg was saved? It has a tendency to get stuck behind the main view and prevents certain functions until it reappears and is cancelled.

Having lost lots of newly entered data in a TT (due to my own stupidity rather than any sort of bug) I now try and remember to save the TT every few minutes when I am doing any editing. It wouldn't necessarily have helped in this case except that there would have been early warning of the problem rather than only finding out after several hours of work.

I save the TT after each & every train I enter. ATM writing New Street 1990 I enter a train, check it validates & thengo to Tools 1 & check the analyser, then I do the same again before saving if the train terminates at New Street to enter the return working. I go through all those steps again & then save the TT It may seem tiresome to do it each & everytime, but at least if the PC shhuts down for any reason or there's a power cut the TT as been saved to the point of the last train entered into the TT. Better safe than sorry.

Maybe there was a message box taking focus but hidden behind another window? If so, there's a general Windows dance to recover: 1. Press Alt-Space to open the window menu 2. Press M to pick "move" from the menu 3. Press one of the arrow keys then move the mouse 4. The window is now stuck to the mouse cursor 5. Put the window (usually a message box) somewhere you can see it and click "OK" or "Cancel" or whatever Had to drum this into a lot of doctors and nurses at a hospital using Citrix to deliver the hospital record system in a department with a mix of single-monitor and multi-monitor workstations… people would resume their session on a single-monitor workstation, and the system has positioned a messagebox where the second monitor was, out of sight! Thank you everyone for the responses...I write this second post with my hat in my hands... The reason the Timetable List wouldn't close is I had changed the Start Time of the timetable to "0434" but I had forgotten the colon : ... I only know this because I have just changed the Start Time again and found myself in the very same predicament (nearly losing my mind once more)....but then I noticed the missing colon : in the time value for Start Time and once I inserted that colon, the Timetable List could be closed once more.... Do not forget to put the colon : when changing your Start or End Times - that is today's lesson. Thank you again everyone. Forgive me as I walk away red-faced. Never mind red-faced. We've all been there. Glad you got it sorted. Just for the record, there is a request on Mantis (#32183) that the time fields in the Train Types (for entry of dwell times etc) and Crew Change times which are used when TT editing or writing should be changed to automatically format as times (i.e. with the colons inserted for you). I'll add the Start and End Time fields to that request. “In life, there is always someone out there, who won’t like you, for whatever reason, don’t let the insecurities in their lives affect yours.” – Rashida Rowe Log in to reply The following users said thank you: jc92, Newhampshires, andyallen4014 |

That would be fantastic if that was added to your ticket, and even more fantastic if the ticket was eventually worked on. Thank you!
