Pardon me if this has been reported before, but running a 1985 timetable I'm unable to route trains arriving from the north or the yard to the flyash circle via the Up Fast line to Fletton. The drivers are complaining of a wrong route and there doesen't seem to be any way around it. Slightly annoying if platforms 4 and 5 are both occupied.

I can't see anything wrong in the data at a quick glance. Do you have a saved game, preferably from just before the train stops at the signal to phone?

Single train TT for 6H52 extracted from the May - September 1985 TT uploaded along with saved game from 11:52. Train is booked Up Yard > P4 > Peterborough S DS > Fletton Flyash. Save has train approaching S458 then signalled along UF to Fletton. Driver rings in querying the route when the train reaches S458. If the response is to bypass Peterborough then keep to TT, telephone immediately rings again with another wrong route call regarding Peterborough S DS. If the response is again to bypass then keep to TT, there is a third wrong route call regarding Fletton flyash. The only way to resolve seems to be to abandon TT completely then reinstate once the train is on the UF.

Technical data:

Ah, I wasn't looking as far back as 458, just the signals at Fletton. I will investigate.

I always thought that the Flyash workings had to be routed between Peterboro and Fletton via the Down Slow to avoid blocking higher speed services on the main lines.

The schedule Postal attached seems to back this up.

Presumably that would have been the norm (maybe in SBSI). Would the routing along the UF actually have been forbidden no matter what the operational circumstances? Seems a bit restrictive.

However, for the purposes of this discussion, trains should be held until there is a route to the South Down Slow. That would be at the Up Yard starter or on the Up Stamford - signal 470, Up Slow - signal 466 or even Up Fast - signal 468 if traffic allowed. Regulating decision for the bobby where to hold it.

The route validation data in the sim only allows trains to use the Down Slow to reach Fletton. But I don't recall if that was a deliberate decision or just that I'd not put in the conditional logic for when the crossover is there. Nothing in the manual either. Needs thought.

Forget that comment; I had misread the sim data.

If you want the train to take the Up lines, you need to explicitly put Fletton into the timetable between Peterborough and Fletton Flyash. Otherwise the sim will automatically insert Peterborough S DS into the train's schedule.

Photographic evidence here and here seems to indicate that the use of the Up Fast and Up Slow was not totally out of the question.

This routing appears to make more sense for trains entering from Peterborough Yard/Spalding vice trains from Ketton being routed via P4/5 and the South DS.

P.S. If train is tt'd via Fletton (as per manual), the driver refuses a route via P4/5 & the South DS from P'boro Yard (Sig 458).

In Zone 6, no one can hear you scream...

In view of the comment from Soton_Speed that wrong route is called if the train is in the converse situation where it is booked along the Up but then signalled through P4/5, this looks like a confusing situation for anyone who is not up to speed with this discussion.

Can anything be done in the data to make either of the two routes valid no matter what is shown in the TT (or would that break something else)?
