Hi,

I am lucky(!) enough to have a T3 possession on UML all the way from Codnor Park to Stapleford.

I've been informed that "One Train Working Regulations apply to passenger trains on goods lines". Could I clarify, does this apply to the whole length of this line, or sectional either side of Trowell, or some other arrangement please?

I guess that this is related to the permissive signals on the line, which allow multiple freight trains to enter the same section.

This may not be done with passenger trains so you would need one train working from one controlled signal to the next, to make sure that you won't show any shunt aspects to the passenger train or a train behind it.

I agree with Albert the "OTW" just means don't shunt passenger trains permissively, hold the previous passenger train at a controlled signal until the preceding train has cleared the section with permissive aspects (like those "auto permissive" signals at Ilkeston) to ensure its one train per "block" at a time.

and those T3 look like fun! (admittedly the Down Goods TC's are a non-existent track xD)

and what happens to Up trains booked for a stop at Langley Mill? is the station solely for Down trains?

Are you sure as this doesn't sound right at all?

Notwithstanding that there are almost no subsidiaries, you would never run passenger trains two-in-section.

The rules are quite clear for a TCB line:

Note that the stop signal doesn't necessarily have to be clear. It is permissible to bring a train carrying passengers to a stand at a signal on a goods line or goods loop, but you must ensure the line is clear and all points in the route are correctly set as far as the next stop signal beyond before you allow the train carrying passengers to approach that signal.

Those are the rules. As long as those rules are all entirely complied with you can have more than one train carrying passengers on the goods line at one time. (It's different for a goods loop on an AB line worked from one signal box).

OTW does not normally mean that. It's a method of working single lines. I think it might be a bit of poetic license, unless terminology has changed...

Edit: You would obviously have to be very, very, very careful of the autos though. I would certainly say you would want to only consider controlled signals honestly. Cause otherwise trains could catch each other up, or train 1 could fail and train 2 could end up being signalled by autos right up to the signal immediately in rear of train 1. So you could have been obeying the rules and then the autos would break them for you. So that's definitely something to watch out for.
