Further to the thread at https://www.SimSig.co.uk/Forum/ThreadView/53886?postId=145821 there are two TTs available for the Royston sim which do not seem to be in conventional format and are not showing in the list of TTs when the sim is loaded. These are the two Royston All Main Lines Down TTs. Neither the original poster nor I can see the TTs when opening the sim. They can be run through the merge and re-save route after which the files can be unzipped as per usual (to see the underlying XML files not to unzip in order to run). As downloaded the files cannot be unzipped and create the message that the files are not archives when this is tried. Are there any checks made to see whether an uploaded TT is actually compatible and in the meantime can these TTs be put on hold pending the uploader ensuring the files are fit for purpose? “In life, there is always someone out there, who won’t like you, for whatever reason, don’t let the insecurities in their lives affect yours.” – Rashida Rowe Last edited: 22/03/2022 at 15:15 by postal Reason: None given Log in to reply |

All files are supposed to be checked. Since these were approved in 2017, it's possible the old format was still a thing (or Royston was still an exe, I don't remember). So they're still valid, sort of, as you've demonstrated, and I have added notes to both files.

It looks like I did the conversion to Loader (with assorted enhancements) in the first half of 2018. Log in to reply |

postal in post 145826 said:Indeed; the WTR file is only created when you add a rule (the format of the WTT file didn't have an easy way to add rules when they were invented). In retrospect, the zipped-XML format should have been .wt2 or .ttf or something like that. Log in to reply The following user said thank you: postal |

Would it be possible / worthwhile / desirable that the loader recognises the old type .wtt file as being there and shows a warning / wiki link in the descriptions section to explain the situation ? So maybe: All Mainline Fail 2.WTT WARNING THIS IS AN OLDER FORMAT TIMETABLE Please see wiki if you wish to convert and run with this loader based simulation. https://www.SimSig.co.uk/Wiki/Show?page=usertrack:ttuse:xml_timetable (Will need Postal's instructions included on that page first) Log in to reply |

If they were to be shown in the "Start a simulation" wizard again, why not just allow them to be opened as normal once again?

As the core code can see the older-style TTs when the Merge option is selected then there is already some code written within the loader to read such TTs; can that be ported over to the dialogue when opening a sim? That would take out the need for Wiki entries and convoluted manoeuvres when trying to load an older TT. This would make it easier for people who just want to get on and play (or who are frightened of the technicalities of the whole thing). “In life, there is always someone out there, who won’t like you, for whatever reason, don’t let the insecurities in their lives affect yours.” – Rashida Rowe Last edited: 23/03/2022 at 19:41 by postal Reason: None given Log in to reply |
