Working on a 1973/74 timetable for which I have all relevant WTT's. Just ordered a bit of reference material from e-bay as to prototypical workings with the stock of the time. Plenty of interesting workings especially ECS and Parcels of which there were enough to keep the signaller busy in the early hours and late at night. Probably some missing bits of infrastructure such as sidings etc but so far so good.

Quick update - About half of the passenger trains are in now along with all freight that can be reasonably routed. Brighton Top Yard seems to have had a direct entrance from the station side at this date where as it doesn't on this layout. However freight was in decline on the Southern by this time so not too many to worry about. Some ECS trains have tight turnarounds as I believe Brighton may have had more platforms and there was access to Platform 3 from the West Carriage Road and Depot Sidings again not on this layout so some trains will arrive and depart quite quickly to free up the platform. Some locations such as Ore near Hastings and West Worthing had small depots at this time which closed in the 80's so you will see some trains originating from and going to these places which then had regular services. Portion working was also still in place and you will need to watch for trains that split at Haywards Heath with a portion for Brighton and usually another via Lewes to the East Coastway via Plumpton. Some late night services in particular do this. We are away on holiday from this Friday until Tuesday 12th so I will endeavour to test the morning part of the timetable this week and get it right hopefully. Once we are home I will work on some more passenger trains from mid day onwards.

Testing for the morning part of the TT almost complete. Should get that done today. Will then crack on with the rest of the passenger services

All down trains on the mainline done. Will now get the up trains in. Luckily East Coastway trains are on the same pages. Then just the West Coastway to finish and maybe ask for some vol's to help test

All trains now in. If anyone would like to help with testing please let me know. This one is a whopper with about 618 trains altogether. Please note that at the moment not all outbound trains have been tied to inbound workings past the morning peak so you may wish to wait until I've gone through and done them or if you'd like to help then you can do so.

May I offer - there's no point in sending an incomplete work out for testing. Things you have yet to address could obscure further problems. Timetable testing is for finding any issues with a complete work.

With that said, I always appreciate people who take the time to put together older timetables. Thanks for your work and good luck with it!

I too would be happy to test the new timetable, although I agree with flabberdacks that this should not be done until the TT is complete so please don't send me any half-finished files to have a go at.

I worked in the SMO at Brighton briefly in 1971 so this could be a bit of a trip down memory lane for me!

Based on the links below, platform 10 had gone, but platform 9 was still there in 1974.
P10 being used for access to loco sidings.

Yes that explains why there is a lack of platform space on the East Coastway side with what I think was a more intensive service at the time

I know in my 1982 timetable (one of the series to join the Victoria Central one) I found that for most of the day platform 8 was available and it was only in the peak hours that I had to find other platforms for Seaford and Ore services

At this time there was also an Eastbourne service as well. These break the bank platform space wise

Even with some 'constructive' double docking ?
Unless that is you have and are trying to maintain the stock diagrams.
Would the coasts mainly be 4 car HAP ?

Shame timetableworld has gone over to paid now, a quick look at the 1973 coast timetable might have been useful.

Yes I've tried doubling up with trains stacking but the service pattern is such that you end up running out of space by about 09.30. 2-HAP 4 cars and 4-VEPS on the Eastbourne and Ore trains. Mainly HAPS on the Seafords
