Stourbridge Junction Sim Released

Change at Stourbridge Junction for services to Stourbridge Town!

We are excited to announce the release of the Stourbridge Junction simulation.

Completing another section of the Midlands area, this simulation covers the line from Jewellery Quarter (Saltley simulation), Galton Junction (exclusive; Birmingham New Street simulation), Round Oak, through Stourbridge Junction, and on to beyond Kidderminster. It features the infamous Stourbridge Town line, known in more recent days for its flywheel-driven Parry People Mover, as well as the connection to the even more famous Severn Valley Railway at Kidderminster.

In the 2012 era replicating the WMSC workstation the simulation is operated by one person, in the 2007 era replicating the various smaller boxes which controlled the area, the simulation can be operated by one person, or can be split into two during multiplayer.

A 2009 and a 2019 timetable are included to make use of both eras, both timetables are manageable by a single player, with enough to keep you on your toes!

Alongside this new release there are also some updates.

Great work: thanks to those involved with the creation and release of this sim.

I played the 2012-era layout with 2019 TT for an hour or so this evening and the only thing I have noticed so far is that if you interpose a train ID onto SJ638 at Stourbridge Junction and the train then passes that signal the TD does not transfer over onto SJ86. I don't know if this is meant to be the case or if the non-transfer of the TD is a bug.

Coincidentally I got home to the release of this having spent much of my working day around the Stourbridge and Kidderminster area....

Loving the sim so far. Only thing I'm querying is the TD's for the PPM If I interpose in Stourbridge Junction P1 it steps up to the branch but then does not step in to the platform at Stourbridge Town and vice versa.

I can't reproduce this. Can you follow these instructions to see what's going on your end.

Cheers

I've asked the Dev regarding this, as some TDs do step from shunt signals and some dont. If it is an issue, I will follow up this reply with a Mantis ticket or a simple "as booked".

Stand by with this one.

Craig

Feedback 19/09/2023: There is no evidence to suggest that they do step from the shunt signals, thus this will be treated as correct behaviour.

Thanks
Craig

One thing I've noticed (with 2019 TT) is that if the PPM calls in with a delay at Stourbridge Town, and you step it up to a future working, once the delay is resolved the train will go to "waiting for RA" rather than "waiting for departure time". Not had a failure at SBJ to confirm if the same is true there. Don't yet have a save but can try to get one if needed.

Thanks
Jamie

So once you bring the train out of the shed, you do not need to do anything else with the lever controls other than uncheck HS7, return the points back and FPL. return the frame. The branch will look after itself as stated in the manual.

Quote:
The Stourbridge Town Branch will run independently by itself once you have got the unit out of the shed. This is by means of Ground Frame SJ401, and there is a diagram on the frame for which levers and handsignals do what. The connection between the Branch Platform and the Down Goods Loop is rarely used since the Class 139 Parry People Movers took over the operation of the branch. Locations and paths exist within the sim to allow a "shuffle" to swap around the two PPM units.

That’s where I was going wrong then. Thanks for letting me know.

02:42:45 Track section failure detected in the STOUR1 SSI area
03:42:30 Train Approaching Galton Junction
03:42:30 SJ19 Slot has been requested
03:43:00 6V74 will be about 38 minutes late entering your area
03:45:07 Technician: Ok, track section failure in the STOUR1 SSI area fixed.

Above messages show Train approaching - slot given but nothing appears - now 0403 and still nothing - I cant add save as I wasnt expecting this so didnt pre save - TT is 2009 - is it purely it takes a while for train to appear?

Ok- updated 6v74 appeared as shown 38 mins late - but slot was asked for at original entry time not the delayed time - im assuming this is incorrect?

An issue I have just spotted is that northbound trains not booked to stop at Kidderminster in the 2007 eras slow to 15mph approaching the station. It looks like it is only over the points from the SVR, so is possibly using the speed limit from/to the SVR rather than main line in error ? It doesn’t happen in the 2012 era.

I tested it twice to make sure and to keep it simple I started the 2009 TT at 23.00 just before 1M80 enters at Droitwich. Two saves attached, one from when 1M80 is approaching Hartlebury and one at Kidderminster whilst it has slowed. As soon as the TC covering the SVR points clears it will start to accelerate.
