I'm playing the Doncaster North 2019-01-09 timetable, although this question would apply to any Doncaster North tt. I had 6D91 approaching Kirk Sandall Jn. when I requested a slot from Doncaster Station for a train to enter the South Yorkshire Joint Line, which was subsequently granted. Is it normal practice for the signaller at Doncaster Station to also request a slot, even though the SYJL is occupied having himself grant a slot for a train in the opposite direction? Or would he wait for the train to clear that section of track? ..... Post has attachments. Log in to view them. Everything that you make will be useful - providing it's made of chocolate. This has just become interesting. Further to my previous post, even though I haven’t granted a slot to Doncaster Station signallers, 4R18 has entered the SYJL and is travelling towards Kirk Sandall and heading straight towards 6D61. Looks like I’ll have to quickly reverse 6D61 and hope that I do it in time to avert a collision! Save at 12:10:00 attached. Technical Data can be provided if necessary. ..... Post has attachments. Now 4R18 has stopped at signal D215 preventing 6D61 from exiting the SYJL! ..... Post has attachments. Log in to view them. Everything that you make will be useful - providing it's made of chocolate. Last edited: 05/03/2024 at 17:00 by bugsy Reason: None given Log in to reply |

You must have granted the slot request from panel 2 for the 4R to enter? Si Log in to reply |

This is covered in the Doncaster North manual on the Wiki but not the Doncaster Station manual. Quote: Panel 5 South Yorkshire Joint Line There is a stretch of single track bypassing Doncaster station, avoiding trains between Hatfield and Firbeck Junction from crossing over the busy main line on the level. Panel 2 (the panel controlling the other end of the line) and Panel 5 each have a slot, both of which can be given at the same time, and neither of which cancel when a train passes. Note that it is possible to create a stand-off on this line by signaling a train towards D676 with the slot from panel 2 granted. “In life, there is always someone out there, who won’t like you, for whatever reason, don’t let the insecurities in their lives affect yours.” – Rashida Rowe Last edited: 05/03/2024 at 19:42 by postal Reason: None given Log in to reply |

Thanks, but I’m aware of this information. It would appear that I have slightly messed things up 🙄 I think that what happened was that a slot was requested by Panel 2, but never granted, probably because I was concentrating on a different part of the sim. Subsequently, Panel 5 (me) requested a slot which was granted by Panel 2. It seems odd that having granted my slot and with a train heading towards signal D216, that Panel 2 allowed 4R18 to advance to signal D215 and prevent 6D61 from exiting the single line. Oh well. Back to an earlier save and perhaps grant that slot from Panel 2 this time. Everything that you make will be useful - providing it's made of chocolate. Log in to reply |

So you must have either neglected to manually cancel the slot after the passage of the previous train or granted the slot again for the current train. There are no other options. You might like to check the save to which you are returning and let us know whether the slot is still granted from the previous train so we are not all left hanging on tenterhooks! “In life, there is always someone out there, who won’t like you, for whatever reason, don’t let the insecurities in their lives affect yours.” – Rashida Rowe Log in to reply |

I was reading things back to front when I was talking about the Doncaster Station sim rather than Doncaster North so apologies for that. You haven't posted a copy of the 12:00:00 save so we can't look at that but the 12:10:00 save you put up in your first post has both slot roundels filled white. If you can put up the 12:00:00 save we can see what is causing the roundel for the slot request from panel 2 (D215) to fill before 12:10:00.

I don't think that the situation has been replicated because you'll see that the slot from Doncaster Station is requested well before 6D61 reaches Hatfield & Stainforth Station. I'm virtually certain that this wasn't the case in my original run because I wouldn't have requested a slot with the train being so far away. If you re-read my original post, I had requested a slot and it was granted and ! set the route for 6D61 onto the single line. It was after this that a slot was requested by Doncaster Station, even though the single line was occupied by then and so I obviously couldn't grant the slot to them. This is all very odd isn't it?? However, there is nothing in the slotting arrangements to stop you granting the slot from D215 even if you have already had Doncaster Station grant you the slot to enter the single track in the opposite direction. All very odd. “In life, there is always someone out there, who won’t like you, for whatever reason, don’t let the insecurities in their lives affect yours.” – Rashida Rowe Log in to reply |
