Slot granted and then cancelled? 12/03/2024 at 17:23 #155678 | |

I’m playing the Doncaster South 1991 timetable. Shortly after 21:51:00 I requested a slot so that I could send a late train (2E35) towards Sleaford at Barkston South Jn. The slot was granted. However, even though I had set the route for 2E35 and it was traversing the crossover from the Down to the Up line before Barkston South Jn, the slot was cancelled. I will have to re-run the sim and either hold 2E35 at Grantham or hold it before the crossover and allow 2M38 to enter from Barkston East. Surely, having granted a slot and with a route set the slot shouldn’t have been withdrawn? Post has attachments. Log in to view them. That looks fine to me. The Slot is for the signal it has just passed, and when the signal returns to danger the slot extinguishes as its only good for one "pull".

Is it that I requested the slot too early? Everything that you make will be useful - providing it's made of chocolate. Log in to reply |

Once the train passes the signal, the route from the signal is cancelled behind it (the signal stem goes back to grey from white) and the slot is as well, so you need to request it again to set another route. The route is still held ahead of the train that has just passed, no conflicting route can be set. That looks fine to me. A lot, probably most, slots act this way, though some are 'persistent' and will remain granted until the other signaller manually cancels it. I'll re-run the save to see what happens :-) That worked a treat. Didn't know that you could do that. I'll remember the tip for future games unless my memory fails me.
