Basingstoke No. 6 Sdg After having looked in person, the actual length of the No. 6 Siding appears to be closer to 35 metres (between BE5108 and the buffer stops). The 65m stated appears to be the distance to the temporary stop board chained to the tracks before the points for the Up Recp Sdg (Points BE2533b). All pictures were taken from the Country end of Platform 4. I am more than happy to annotate any pictures/ take more from different angles if it'd be helpful. Post has attachments. Also, located at the far country end of platform 4 there is a box with "Up Siding Shunters Acceptance Switch".

Google Earth Measurements - I have just measured it on Google Earth Pro - the distance between the buffer stops and BE5108 seems to be 38m ± 1m. (Orange on image - No. 6 Siding length) There then seems to be another 40m ± 2m to the "temporary" stop board. I have included the .KMZ file as well The shunters acceptance switch location is also included (± 1m) Post has attachments. https://photos.signalling.org/picture?/364/category/150-signal_box_2008_set_1 After checking the photos, the siding shunters acceptance plunger is, I assume, old and now unused. - Jake Last edited: 20/05/2024 at 21:39 by DaChezePufz Reason: None given Log in to reply |

Thanks for looking into this. We usually increase siding and platform lengths a little in SimSig just to ensure things fit as the drivers can be cautious at times. Yes, the siding acceptance switch was removed when the former yard was turned into a single, dead-end siding. Interesting that the box remains, complete with label. Hi Geoff I am a shunter at Basingstoke. The acceptance switch was installed when the Up siding was made a dead end siding and electrified for us to berth 450 stock in overnight. we also have a repeater switch in the cabin in Barton Mill and CCTV in the up sidings so we can do shunt moves in and out of the up sidings and monitor from Barton Mill. The old shunt neck there is no longer in use despite there being an active ground position signal in place. i have created a new thread with a few things i have noticed i hope you wont mind looking at. thanks Steve Log in to reply |
