My Brother caught a train from Parramatta to Sydney earlier this week and photographed the signalbox at Parramatta and noticed others enroute to Sydney. are any of these boxes still in use at the moment?

Thanks,

Glyn

Short answer, no.

There are a couple of relay interlocked boxes left, but I don’t think anything with mechanical or electro mechanical interlocking like Parramatta would have been. Quite a few decommissioned signal box buildings still remain.

Most of Sydney can be controlled from one room at the Rail Operations Centre.

What an excellent excuse to once again post Sydney Signal Box 1992 for a snapshot of what it used to look like.

Ian's channel has a wonderful series of captures of a variety of signal boxes around Sydney, all closed now and replaced with computers.
