Chris Hughes EX UndergrounD, BR, Mastermind and Eggheads died today aged 77.

I helped train him when he joined BR as a Guard in the early nineties, we were apprehensive at first due to his background however he was a really nice bloke.

Worked on The West Anglia routes as a Guard and Driver after working on the UndergrounD

I was distantly acquainted with him when I was in the Admin at Broxbourne, just after he came over from LT (and I believe he went to Old Oak after that). I recall him as a nice bloke.

May he rest in peace.

Did he stay on the Western after the move to OOC? Because I recognise that name from my dad who was BR(S) and later BR(W), W&W, Wessex, FGW then GWR

I didn't really follow his career after he moved to the WR, I'm afraid. But I got the impression he wanted to sample lots of lines rather than stay in one place. Whether he was able to do that or whether privatisation caught up with him before he could leave OOC I don't know.
