I didn't realise you needed an account to see it - why would someone not have a facebook account ;-)

Just shows how the Forum is gradually becoming polarised along generational lines. Will we soon have two separate forums, one accessed from the Saga web-site and the other from Club 18-30? I have had to shorten the video by five minutes to get under the YouTube 10 minute limit, but I am uploading to Youtube now for those without Facebook accounts :-) Ten minutes is enough to get an idea though. I have had a FaceBook account for a year and haven't had any technical problems with my PC or software issues, plus I don't go on it every five minutes. What are the issues you don't like? I am 47 and my wife is 53 and use Facebook ok without any perceived downsides - is there something bad we don't know? We use it to keep in contact with family and to share a few videos and photos. I know some younger people spend their entire lives on it, but it serves a purpose for us.

I liked the video alot. Informative and gives the impression you get quite busy on that panel. Interesting apparent lack of subroute locking on the up fast!

Interesting apparent lack of subroute locking on the up fast!On the video you see approx 3 route miles of 20 odd on panel 3. Off screen there is Harpenden Junction which is just as busy as Radlett jcn, plus St.Albans and Luton terminators. It is hard work, especially the rush hours, but gets completely manic when there are delays and other problems. TVSC Link 4 signaller - Temple Meads, Bath & Stoke Gifford Log in to reply |

Flightsimmer You are reading too much into what I wrote. It is not a case of liking or not liking nor of good or bad. It is more about wanting to use something like Facebook rather than older methods of communication. This is more likely to be a generational thing than anything else - so the Saga v Club 18-30 analogy. postal said:FlightsimmerWhat, older methods of communication like an Internet forum? ;-) Facebook is just a device to communicate with, but it just so happens a lot of people let it control their lives to some extent ;-) I only communicate with close friends and family and it is very good for that - I just don't go to the dark sordid places :-) The negative facebook comments made me think maybe there had been some bad experiences with it like viruses or maleware or PC slowdowns etc that I may have not known about. My close family are all over 50 and use it regularly (regularly in 50 year old terms, not in 20 year old terms which no doubt means 10 hours a day) ;-) TVSC Link 4 signaller - Temple Meads, Bath & Stoke Gifford Log in to reply |

I have tried 4 times to upload the shorter video to YouTube but it has failed each time after 300Mb. I now give up as it is using up my monthly bandwidth allowance. The original longer version is available on FaceBook. :) I too didn't go on Facebook for a long time because I would see my son go on it for hours and hours, typing out miles of silly text speak. I would laugh at all the silly messages appearing, informing him of a friends farm that had just produced more asparagus. :: However, when I realised all that can be turned off, that photos and videos can be shared for free and the family can keep updated with news, I signed up. I have had no tech issues, no software issues and no malware problems. I posted some photos of a day trip to my brothers yesterday. The rest of my family had a look and left comments for me. They loved the videos of the deer that visited the garden. My sister has posted images of my young neice that suffered a stroke at 3 years old. The family was gratefull to see her progress. My brother and I are enjoying the game of Scrabble we have going on FaceBook. If your only experience of Facebook is what you have heared or glanced, then you may be missing out on a good resource - my close family are 50 plus and use it all the time - but we don't have to mix with the 'youngsters' or do 'youngsters' stuff  Wow - 3000 views of this thread and 2 pages of replies, but only one comment from someone who actually viewed the video. Perhaps the 18-30 / Saga comment was justified TVSC Link 4 signaller - Temple Meads, Bath & Stoke Gifford Log in to reply |

I think everybody is grateful that the video has been put up but this fact has been a little overshadowed by the Facebook discussion. In light of that, could we leave the pros and cons of Facebook out of the discussion and stick to the trains (or suggestions of how/where to host the video)? Thanks. SimSig Boss Log in to reply |

Gives a very nice idea of what working a panel is like. Bit different to how it used to be down there... somwhere I have some pictures of Finchley Road around 1978 (unfortunately no video - that would have been worth having) - all rotary blocks and a good-sized Derby frame, with short-section working creating a lot of interest. St Albans South gives a bit of an idea how things were, but so far very little is simulated.

The video will just be on Facebook, well at least for this month as I used up 1.2 Gb of bandwidth trying to get it on YouTube

Great insight into a bit of our work. But I think you should check your captions on the film again.
