I'm starting to get the opinion that the front page of the wiki should be the "Contents" page that's buried 2 or 3 pages in on the User Track. I presume the majority of users on the wiki will want the manuals for the sims, so it makes sense to have these on the front page.

The links to the TT/Developer areas can still be kept in an obvious place - but I'm getting pretty bored of hunting down the "click here" button, reading the introduction for the umpteenth time and then getting to the page I want!

Also, would it be an idea to combine the simulation manuals and description pages? I've been clicking the obvious link for, say, "Sheffield" on the contents for months, and only just discovered the manuals are actually hidden behind a link at the bottom of the page. Put the description at the top, and manual underneath - in fact, the majority of the "Description" pages is duplicated in the manuals partly or in its entirety already. At the very least, I think an obvious link to "Manual" on the description pages wouldn't go amiss!

(I'd rather ask/suggest this stuff before messing with the entire structure )

For major structure changes, yes you're right to discuss before jumping in and doing it :-). I did mention something about making the main content more obvious than the developer links. However, I can't criticise NickP, Postal, Tallington, Lardybiker etc as they have done sterling work in porting the Wiki across from the old website.

I do agree about pretty much everything you say so here and now is a good place to discuss it.

May need a pause here. Can we check that the porting team (thank you) are satisfied that everything that is needed from the old Wiki has now been ported over.

If so, then yes lets get a discussion going on the structure. My starting point is, if the Wiki is accessed from the SimSig site, then, as Danny said, the "What it is"
has already been covered by the front page there.

That leaves the Wiki front page available for a full set of "Linked" content's.

In what and there order is going to need a search on the FAQ front.

I can confirm that everything was ported across from the old wiki. I believe AndyG has a handful of pages (4 or 5 I think) awaiting integration into the new structure. Also, if we need to refer back to the originals, they are all currently sitting in the index under 'nicksandpit:' in their dokuwiki format. Additionally, I've got all the original original pages, in TikiWiki format, safely backed up here.
