A long long time when PCs were in their infancy and many peple still had Spectrums there were a number of Fleet Manager games. Titles I recall were amongst Solent & Sarum, and Old Oak Common. Does anyone still produce such games?

I seem to recall I had a class 50 GW management game- think it was written in Basic (or somethign similar) and I managed to rewrite it to a ScR based version with Class 26/27 and 40s.

Wonder where it is now....

Yes, I also remember these games...seem to think that one was given to me in an old C-90 casette case but it must have been thrown out when her in doors got rid of me just like a lot of other things...

ZX Spectrum - didn't Mr. Sinclair say when they came out that we are now entering the paperless society.....

I think you are referring to some S.I.A.M. products which were originally for the Spectrum and Amiga (wot's them, Sharpy???)

As far as I know they are still in business.

I recall i had one called "Class 50 Fleet Manager"

I had a Spectrum emulator on my PC a while back and a few of the Fleet Management games are available for it from World Of Spectrum as well as a few signalling games and other rail based games, mainly from DeeKay Systems and Ashley Greenup. (RTC Penzance and RTC Kings Cross were my favourite.)

http://www.worldofspectrum.org/infoseekid.cgi?id=0017490 (Deltic Fleet Manager)

http://www.worldofspectrum.org/infoseekid.cgi?id=0013398 (Class 50 Fleet Manager)

http://www.worldofspectrum.org/infoseekid.cgi?id=0013220 (North Wales 47 Fleet Manager)

http://www.worldofspectrum.org/infoseekid.cgi?id=0023388 (Peak Fleet Manager)

http://www.worldofspectrum.org/infoseekid.cgi?id=0013223 (ScotRail Class 47 Fleet Manager)

There are various emulators available and WoS has links to most of them.

You are correct, they were and still are produced by SIAM. They have now been updated to work with computers slightly more modern than Spectrum!

Oh happy days. I went "Spectrum Kit" (Build your own), Science Kit, another build yourself job that used BURB (Basic Using Reverse Polish) and
then a Jupiter Ace which was my introduction to my favorite language, FORTH, ideal for my then job of Control Engineering.

I've just found the disk- Class 50 Fleet manager Dee-Kay systems 1987.

Don't think I have the computer to work it anymore though (might be in my mum's loft); I'll have a look at Easter.

If you look behind the above links there are quite a range of games to play. Tried the Rugby box simulation but as there are no instructions I ground the place to a halt with the first train.

I had quite a few of the Dee-Kay & later Ashley Greenup sims for the Spectrum, including one or two of the Fleet Managers. In fact, having uploaded some missing cassette inlays and even one game that was listed as missing to World of Spectrum I had an offer from the tape preservation group for my original cassettes, so have sold them.

Ashley Greenup still sells cab view and signalling sims, although from the look of his website http://www.traingames.shopfactory.com/index1.html they are all on sale and he is presumably winding down.

The author who did some of the later Dee-Kay and Greenup published signalling sims with multiple hi-res screens, including Rugby and Edinburgh, later released some under his own name (Andrew George). He also still does PC signalling sims at sigcent.com

I'd be interested in knowing what keys one has to use- I also tried driving an HST up the Lickey and through trial and error found some keys that seemed to work though it then crashed (the game not that train).

Speaking of fleet management games... I think DaFT did a good one today on the IEP debacle.
