I decided to run the Edinburgh simulation tonight with the network under full ARS control. Now 5X15 which is a seeded entry onto line X and booked to run into platform 15 @ 00:01, randomly did not appear until 00:21 (20 minutes late); by this time 2b14, which was running to booked time, had arrived in P15 and was waiting for his joining train 5B42-1 which is what 5X15 turns into.

Now 2B14 is only 69 metres long but was occupying both of the TC sections of P15!!?? This is very odd because on the neighbouring P16 is 2G11 which at 138m long is more than twice the length of 2B14 and only 'lighting up' one TC.

So as a consequence the ARS thinks that P15 is fully occupied and that there is no room to put 5X15 in there! The 'Overlength Train' warning appears, and I cannot set manually into P15 because the system won't let me do it!

Please look into this matter for me as I'm certain this situation shouldn't happen. Thanks a lot.

If you instruct the 2nd train to pass signal at danger it will fit into P15 OK.

See Peter's post here for an explanation why the indicator lights, but as in this case both parts are 69m long it could be that 2B14-4 doesn't move close enough to the buffers for some reason - shunt forward might have done it.

Edit: Did a test, 2B14-4 stops part way along, abandoned the TT and it moved within the buffer TC alone.

I can only help one person a day. Today's not your day. Tomorrow doesn't look too good either.

I'm getting a similar problem with 1R82 (2 x 170 units) not wanting to go into P15 when it's already occupied by a single 170 waiting to form 1R39 - is 15 long enough to take 3 two-car units without triggering the over length warning?

There are certain permutation of trains that will not fit one way but will the other of the reasons explained in the link. This is particularly the case at Glasgow Queen Street where there is a table on the box wall setting them out.

But maybe in this case, based on what Andy says, it does seem that the train expected to arrive second is stopping short, presumably because its looking for the 'front' portion and can't find it.
