I've just purchased the Newport Sim - it is my home patch.

So far as I know, Severn Tunnel Junction has had four platforms for a number of years (at least eight. Thus why only three on the Sim.

The Tintern Branch and Wye Valley Junction, and sidings at Chepstow, are long gone.

The simulation models Newport Power Signal Box, as it was before the area was resignalled and moved to South Wales SCC.

Despite the track layout differences, the supplied timetables can be run without problems.

As Steamer has said, it is a simulation of Newport PSB, not the relevant desks in SWSC.

Newport Manual said:
Overview
This sim covers the area of Newport PSB (Now closed), East Usk signalbox (Now Closed), and Park Junction signalbox.

Sorry all, but there were four platforms at STJ in Newport Panel days. It has had four platforms since GWR days! Two on the branch to the tunnel, and two on the main (plus bays at one stage).

There definitely wasn't.

The original 4th Platform face at the original Severn Tunnel Jcn Station was converted into a Goods Line at the resignalling in 1968 from the Mechanical boxes to Newport Panel.

THIS aerial photo from 2004 shows quite clearly the Down Goods arcing away from the Down Main to make space for a Down Relief platform; but per signalling notice WW289 1968 (available from the SRS on this page) that line was downgraded from passenger status when the area was re-controlled into Newport Panel. It would be nonsensical to provided a platform face to a non-passenger line; especially in BR's austerity years of the 1960s.

The new 4th platform is on the new-built Up Tunnel line that was commissioned when Newport Panel closed and control passed to the the (then) new South Wales Signalling Control Centre in 2010.

The simulation is correct - Newport Panel only ever controlled a 3-platform Severn Tunnel Junction station.

Oh dear.

I must apologise for getting this wrong.

I pass through there nearly every week and thus find the simulated layout very strange!

Now - sorry. Lemon again!

I now have 0V61 heading towards STJ at 00.37. Routed to Platform 4!!!!

I am sure I can get round it, but am I being silly here????

You'll just need to route it as appropriate, probably slipped in via the NR data.

Trust me, Newport panel never had four platforms at Severn Tunnel Junction, in fact the whole station has moved since the panel days.

Thanks again for what I am sure will be an enjoyable Sim.

However, Park Junction - Ebbw Vale never came under the panel, so it is not a true reflection of how the panel was (and Ebbw Vale Station is far more recent). Not complaining, but simply pointing out that to say there are only three platforms simulated at STJ as this is how it was in panel days does not hold water if Ebbw Vale is simulated!

No, but it does come under Park Junction signal box.

Again, per the manual Newport sim is Newport Panel, Park Junction SB and East Usk SB.

The mechanical part of Park Junction was unchanged by the Ebbw Vale Line reopening to passengers, which was in 2008.

The Network Rail media site shows SWCC as opening in 2010, so the panel would have controlled passenger trains heading along it for a short time.
