A timetable for Cowlairs in 2016 is nearing completion now - it is the time with Queen St shut.

Not sure if it will be fun, stressful or boring yet - I'll find out when testing it.

It is about 500 trains, very little outside the 0500 - 2300 period so I may well provide either a 'late start' option or a 'backshift start' at say 1400.

First test run and edit done, now on second testing run.

From the first run, this is likely to suit those who run delays & failures as the timetable is very fragile (in strange places - like Cumbernauld).
There's enough variety with WHL services and freight turning up just when you think you have the hang of the standard clockface.

Going to be 0400 - 2800 as so little happens at night.
Comments invited on supplying a 1000 and/or 1400 start.

Bill,, i assume there's no issues with the EGIP layout at Grenhill? this is still the old track layout in sim. the line to greenhill lower is no in place of the loop.

Craig

EDIT

Ignore me, i'm thinking CENT SCOT.

How is the timetable progressing? If you want me to test the timetable with delays & failures on, just let me know.

Not sure testing a TT with delays and failures on achieves anything. One of the points of TT testing is to try and iron out things like platform and junction conflicts which have been written into the TT. With delays and failures on many trains are not running to scheduled time so you lose the opportunity to check for those conflicts.

I beg to disagree...

I test my historic timetables extensively in both "perfect" mode and disrupted mode. it has certainly helped me find a few rules that needed tweaking and a few rules that were missing completely - things which didn't show up under perfect conditions.

I would certainly agree that any timetable should be tested to destruction in perfect mode first before any disrupted mode testing is done, but I found disrupted mode very valuable.

It is waiting for one final sim bug to get resolved, otherwise ready to go. That said the bug is not too critical to use so I might just remove the offending trains.

8K32 at GQ55, is this booked to sit in the tunnel and arrive into QST at 1005? He is calling pretty much right away to get moving down the hill.

5V33 and 5V20 are both scheduled to depart from Cumbernauld at 13:22 from the same platform. As 5V33 has the 'set down only' box ticked (and is formed by 2V26 arr. 13:13) they do not conflict in practice, so you may consider this nitpicking.

6S45 and 1R34 conflict:

While 6S45 runs through Springburn at 14:08, 2J17 is waiting at signal CE302 for 1R31 to pass. Thus 6S45 has to stop at Cowlairs West Jn, as timetabled. Meanwhile 1R34 enters, going from Bellgrove Jn towards Edinburgh; it is scheduled to pass Springburn P1 at 14:11.

After 6S45 leaves Cowlairs West Jn, it will again come to a stop at signal CE302 because 2J17 is still in front. Then it is fouling the points of the junction, at least until 14:15 by which time 1R34 is already supposed to be at Bishopsbriggs.

I was able to route 1R34 wrong line through Springburn P2, then back to the Up line at Cowlairs East Jn, but using these approach controlled routes delayed it by about 2 minutes.

6S45 would need to be held before Springburn, rather than at Cowlairs West Jn to solve this conflict.

I agree with whatlep - it is a very nice timetable and the bugs I found are just minor things that aren't any harder to work around than the usual regulation which happens all the time with these rerouted trains. It's indeed very easy to route a class 2 train too early onto the E&G, or forget about a slightly delayed class 1 from Glasgow Central and route the wrong train over Garnqueen junction first!

What slightly bothers me is the sim requesting a slot for the single line from Hyndland, then reporting minutes later that the train is 30 late (or something like that). I found out however that you can right-click the slot to withdraw it in such cases.

I have just found a bug in the TT: train 5V40 is in Springburn P3, from where it can't get to Gartsherrie South Jn.

Another minor issue: 2J32 delays 2N81 by about 4 minutes as it calls at Possilpark & Parkhouse. As 2N81 has a lot of slack in its timetable it could be retimed a bit to get around this.

Keep them coming Albert, not a problem. Freight is more likely to be wrong as Iwas not using the 'when GLQ is shut' freight WTT and with variable trains may not have also done a perfect run with all of them.

In that case I have another one for you: 8K03 (UID 8K0301) is standing at Bishopbriggs in the path of 1R73.

Not so. Use the bi-directional signalling provided!

I know how to operate it but didn't know that that was intentional. In my case 2N87 was delayed and 1R73 has to use the same line right after it, and had to be held at Cadder for a while as a result, causing knock-on effects to 1R74. As you see this fits only narrowly.

It also leaves me wondering, in which platform at Bishopbriggs do passengers expect their train? But I guess there's no way to code these lines in the TT.

They look at the overhead displays.

Another bug: 0Y09 and 2J05 conflict between Gartcosh and Springburn. This time there is no Bi-Di running to make up for it!

edit: 0Y09 also conflicts with 5Y21 in theory (though not in practice)

I drove over the level crossing at Strachcarron on the Kyle of Lochalsh line yesterday. This has two platforms and four trains each way each day. From the car window it looked like each platform has an overhead dot-matrix display showing the first and other trains expected at that platform.

I'm aware that there are indicators on the platforms in this area as I've been to Stepps in 2015, but platform indicators still require you to go to one platform first just to find out that your train is displayed on the other side. And the other platform may not even be visible if there's a train standing in the station, as is the case with 8K03!

Looking at Streetview imagery (https://www.google.nl/maps/@55.904356,-4.2249718,3a,72.2y,139.25h,85.36t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sDBMV2dIHmm3mIYwt-4dFag!2e0!7i13312!8i6656?hl=nl) there doesn't appear to be any indicator listing all trains & their platforms at the station entrance, so apparently passengers will just have to look across the tracks or listen to the announcements.
