Yesterday I tried to change the length of a train in the tt editor, but I must have done something wrong because the length didn't alter. I've managed to do this in the past but can't remember at which point. Is there a certain point where this has to be done, i.e., before a train enters? Thanks. You can shorten a train's length in the F2 train list, under "extreme measures" > adjust length. It can only be made shorter this way, not longer. If you want to lengthen a train, I believe it has to be done before entering, or by joining with another train. Log in to reply |

I have shortened a train's length using the method that I mentioned above, before the train's entry. So, I'll wait to see what the length is when it enters. If it hasn't changed, I'll try your method. Thanks Update: The length has changed. Goody

Bear in mind altering a train type length in the sim editor will result in every train with the same type also being changed, this is permanent. Every time you play that timetable the train and all identical ones will be set to the new length, If you've messed up and need to change a train length to fit in somewhere, then you need to do that in F2 as this is not a permanent change. Passed the age to be doing 'Spoon Feeding' !!! Log in to reply |

The problem all stems from a time back in August 2018 when I was having problems with a train at Thristlington Quarry in the same Tyneside IECC sim. It turned out that the train was too long and I was advised to reduce its length. Having done so, I was able to continue without any problems. I was also advised to do the same with any other trains that were bound for the Quarry. This is another instance where I had to reduce a train's length in the same tt. I can’t remember how I changed it last time, but this time I did it this time via F4. I take it that this was wrong then? If I go back to an earlier save prior to the alteration in length and change it via F2, would that be the correct way forward? F2 only changes the length of trains in the sim. So you would need to wait for a train to enter, hit F2 and change the length each time F4 edits the timetable of trains yet to enter. A F4 edit of the individual train timetable will turn the train type from 'Freight Cl6 400m' (or whatever) to Custom with the length you choose. A F4 edit of the train type changes the length of all trains of that type yet to enter. If you then save the timetable on exiting the sim you will change it for future sim starts, be out of sync with the release version and might have length inconsitencies either chaining or in later divides. Additionally, for official timetables, loader will try to overwrite any altered timetable it finds. That is why you should rename the timetable as **********_my-edit.wtt or somesuch. I might use Bill's other suggested solution: "That is why you should rename the timetable as **********_my-edit.wtt or somesuch." Then the original tt won't get messed up. Everything that you make will be useful - providing it's made of chocolate. Log in to reply |
