Hi Everyone,

Can someone please provide some screenshots of Cardiff, I want to see if it's beyond my capabilities.

I would be over the moon if SimSig could put pictures with the info of a sim so that we could quickly have a look before purchase.

Many thanks,
Matt

Here ya go:

The image is at the top of this page:

You can find equivalent pages for other sims here:

https://www.SimSig.co.uk/Wiki/Show?page=usertrack:areainfo

Most of which have a similar high quality image at the top.

This last page also groups sims by difficulty, although I personally disagree with some of the assignments. I think Portsmouth with the default timetable is quite challenging - definitely on the level of Shrewsbury I'd say.

There is also the signal number plan available in the manual of each sim which can serve more or less the same purpose.

Why do you need pictures, all payware sims have a few minutes free trial which can be run a limitless number of times. Ample opportunity to assess the sim.

Has anyone seen original panel photos? I remember seeing them on YouTube or somewhere.

Not YouTube but static photos here: http://photos.signalling.org/index?/category/139-south_wales_main_line

I really meant the panel photos on which the Cardiff Sim was designed.

I'm not sure what you mean then as there are over 90 panel photos there! Example: http://photos.signalling.org/picture?/11887/category/1154-2008_set_2

Karl had more data than panel photos though.

I admire your optimism - but a simple update it is not.

The original simulation took 18 months from start to release. I've no doubt an updated layout would take just as long.

Updating the 'picture' is the easy bit, it's all the stuff to then make it work that's the time-consuming part.

Just for clarity these pictures are in no way officially connected to any updates to the Cardiff simulation to account for a new era.

As much as I admire arrivatw's optimism. There is much more work than just using photoshop.

There have been many more changes than that.

For those unfamiliar with the area, there has been a substantial re-modelling of the whole of the Cardiff Central station area, and the Cardiff/Ninian Park/Grangetown triangle area. Roughly double the previous number of signal sections are present on the Valley lines in the Cardiff area. In addition, the layout at Pengam has been altered, including new and higher speed crossovers between the Main and Relief lines between Pengam and Cardiff, these lines are also bi-directional for some if not all of that section.

Virtually every signal that was controlled by Cardiff PSB has been scrapped and replaced, often in a different position to the equivalent PSB signal. Notably, the Newport- Cardiff section is now mostly 3-aspect, spaced more widely than the dense 4 aspect arrangement previously used.

It really would be a case of starting again from scratch- think of the difference between at London Euston between the Euston and Wembley Mainline simulations.
