Just heard from reliable contacts the following news;

. FirstGroup have been shortlisted for the West Coast franchise.

. National Express have not been shortlisted for the East Anglia franchise, but they have got an extension on the c2c franchise (not sure of the actual franchise name for that one).

Thanks to 'O' and 'A M' for this information. More information as it comes in.

Any views and / or opinions expressed by myself are from me personally and do not represent those of any company I either work for or am a consultant for.

Or you can just find the information on the DFT site:

http://www.dft.gov.uk/pgr/rail/passenger/franchises/greater-anglia/franchisebidders.pdf

There's the right way, the wrong way and the railway.

Bizarre- 17 month Franchise (with 1 year option). I know the last Government wanted shot of NX but would it not have been better to allow them a 17 month extension rather than this?

A 1 year extension, to both, seems a bit silly too.

Oh well I'm routing rooting for First Group.

There was some thought that virgin might miss out on the shortlist for west coast.

Im Surprised First are on there as i would have thought the over-running of first trains towards glasgow would remove that. If First get WC then Scotrail, WC and TPE will all be first group - nice little cluster for them.

I reckon SNCF might make a good job of it - they have plenty of high speed routes themselves that certainly dont run badly.

Looking at that list though i would be surprised if First dont get it, unless any of the others have amazing plans that are unique
