http://www.opentraintimes.com/ Provides National Rail-style timetables for a given location, taken from NR data (WTTs, basically). However, select 'Advanced mode' and you also get headcodes, arrival and passing times for a train, as well as passing trains for a given location, both stations and TIPLOC. Potentially very useful indeed for TT creators. I've been playing with it all weekend and it seems to be accurate - it showed PW trains heading to a possession near Bolton last night so it is certainly up to date. It doesn't yet have live timings for all TOCs, but they are apparently on their way. It is all above board and legitimate using openly available data (the creator comments here http://www.wnxxforum.com/interactive/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=23093) There's the right way, the wrong way and the railway. Thanks for that Splodge. I had just finished a report for the Law Commission to change the law on allowing closure of Level Crossings other than on safety grounds and had submitted my 12 hour road traffic survey figures from the 19th January 2012 in a spreadsheet. The TIPLOC clue let me get in and see every train on that day over our crossing (TALNGTN) and cut and paste them into another spreadsheet. They will now go off as further proof of the congestion here, from Network Rail themselves! I don't know how far they go back but WILL be trying later today for the October 2010 figures! Thanks once again. Ken B) Log in to reply |

This bascially means that they are able to run at 125 mph which lets on to them being a class 220/221/222 As stated by ralphjwchadkirk if you hover over them they let you know what they mean. So far i have seen the following codes (with explinations) RM - Reversing Movement RR - Stops for locomotive to Run Round train -U - Stops to Attach Vehicles OP - Stops for Operation Reasons -D - Stops to Detach Vehicles TW - Stops for tablet, staff, or token Log in to reply |

Here is a step by step guide:- On the Home Page is a black box along the middle - ignore it. Underneath it is an advanced search link - click on that. Then click on 'Location' on the top left of the next page. At the top right is a settings button - click on that and set advanced setting. Put CAPS LOCK on - it is easier to see spelling mistakes! Slowly type in either a 3 letter station code like KGX or a TIPLOC code like TALNGTN. Beware - The first 3 letters of TAL will show all stations with the letters 'tal' in NOT just the actual station TAL - Talsarnau Unfortunately there may be a delay while the system tries to find the TIPLOC when you type it into the box. Wait until it has found it and displayed it in a separate box alongside that you could select from, then fill in the other boxes. Persevere - it is well worth it! Extra search options have been suggested and are being worked on - a job in progress!! Ken Last edited: 31/01/2012 at 21:24 by Tallington Reason: corrected information Log in to reply |

Whilst we're discussing the abbreviations, what does it mean on the main page after the headcode (VAR) (I assume WTT is working timetable) Alan Log in to reply |

VAR means variable schedule. STP is Short term path, and LTP is long term path.

" said:Ah, thanks; so WTT are trains that always run, and the others may be temporary alterations for engineering works etc ?WTT trains are permanent paths, however they might not run if theres nothing to convey! equally some WTT trains run to a Q path which indicates runs as required so again, possibly not. STP and VSTP trains are planned about a week (for STP) or less (VSTP) before they run, very common with coal workings. VAR usually indicates a variation on an existing WTT schedule, possiblty, sending it a different way, or loopping it somewhere etc "We don't stop camborne wednesdays" Log in to reply The following user said thank you: alan_s |

As some have had a few problems with this fantastic website, I have created a simple user guide into cutting, pasting and formatting the available data into a spreadsheet that can then be printed for checking and further editing to create new timetables for SimSig. Unfortunately the data only goes back as far as the latest timetables for the whole network and errors may still be in there so grab as much data for the particular day you want while it exists! If there are any glaring errors in my guide, I apologise, and will update it if required - and add any positive points. Just noticed the formula at the end uses F2:Fxxx - it should be G2:Gxxx - unfortunately I am also human.. Ken Post has attachments. It should be noted that there is (currently) very little VSTP showing on OTT because of when and how the data is sourced, although this should come in time 9not quite none, but not very much). There is also an issue with trains running over the day boundary showing on a line-up on the wrong day - ie SO 2330 Kings Cross-Leeds shows at Doncaster at 0115 on Saturday, rather than Sunday (note - I've made up the train to give a quick example).
