You may be pleased to know there will be a brief interruption in adverts on this website. I don't know how long for - maybe a few hours, maybe a day or two. There's a blank space for the moment. It's just while it switches to a different account. Long story that I don't intend to repeat.

I know the ads on the site draw a lot of comments, but one would have to ask the question:

Do they actually do any harm?

After all, they raise money for the site, and you only have to click on them if you want to.

I thought the one for Psychic services might have been useful: "Is there anyone out there?... When 2R43 will resolve its difficulties and be ready to depart?" :silly:

The only one I ever had an issue with was the one which simply stated, in big letters, "DOWNLOAD NOW" but which didn't make it clear what was being downloaded. A first time visitor to the site may have mistakenly thought that this was where one could download SimSig files as it appeared immediately under the SimSig banner.

Adsense allows specific ads to be banned - that was one of them once I knew about it! However, you've reminded me I need to transfer that information over.

Geoff, is it possible to put some text above and/or below the adverts in the sidebar? Just to make it clearer that anything saying "Download Now" there isn't SimSig stuff.

There are restrictions set by Adsense on what can be printed around the ads which limit the usefulness of it somewhat. As long as there aren't misleading adverts like the one mentioned earlier then it should be okay.

The ad that the site is displaying for me just now says in big bold letters..

Download

...with no indication that it is an advert, which is a bit misleading really.

The text ones have a sign at the bottom saying AdChoices. The graphic ones have an arrow where, if you hover over it, it then shows AdChoices. Beyond banning specific ads as they come up, I have no control over what ads appear, or how they appear. If you PM me the link then I can blacklist it.

Super new advert now, if you click forum, then you get an ad offering you to buy a Class 66 from the shed store
