In possibly what is one of my crazy moments, I've been working on a timetable for both Exeter and Westbury, with the intention of being able to chain.

The years 2020, environmental targets have led to a heavy increase in rail traffic, both passenger and freight. Demand is so heavy that there is no breaks in service, and maintenance has been forced take place during normal service. Often causing heavy delays.

The economic situation has meant stock has seen little change, although some new units have been introduced on local services, in am attempt to meet demand.

These timetables are very intense, and a slight delay can have huge consequences.

I'm hoping that both these will be ready by the end of the month, but am looking for some testers to assist. If you're interested, please let me know.

Lucas.

Maybe you could try an MP session with your chained TT in order to test it.

Wouldn't track improvements take place in such a scenario, so that heavy delays don't happen? What you describe is like the reality of Czechoslovakia near the demise of the socialist regime.

That said, I'd be all for testing the TT, MP or not. Although I'm not really a fan of dystopian prophecies.

The NIMBYs must've won out then. We've got that in America, not a lot of team players about these days.

Project X is certainly available on Exeter, as it's one of my favourite timetables. That's what has prompted me to do this. Project X however is not available on Westbury as far as I know.

A Project X timetable was definitely made for Westbury, as I have it. It no longer appears to be available for download, however.

Odd as it was certtainly released, and no changes where needed to it. Perhaps it got lost in the reshuffle. I'll get Alan to reupload it when he's back in the UK.

Have a look at this download - Westbury.zip - as its author is Alan G and titled Project X, so I think it's the one.

Edit: Appears to be 100% compatible with current Loader version, no errors/warnings reported.

I can only help one person a day. Today's not your day. Tomorrow doesn't look too good either.

Westbury 2020 run to 0830 and no problems via loader [apart from the fact you need eyes in the back of your head and reflexes as fast as camera shutter!] :-)

Lucas,

Will definitely help out testing your new TT, and if I have time I shall put together an MP if that is indeed allowed by the administrators. You can PM me if you want. Would love to play a really complex busy Exeter/Westbury chain as these are 2 of my favourite sims. I often host the Bristol Epicness TT which always seem to attract some good players!

Bring it on :-)

Duncan.

Thanks for all those who have offered to help, both on here and via private message. I'll be sending you all a message later in the week, so sorry if I haven't had chance to reply yet. It's the joys of exam week at university!

So far I have around 150 journeys in place on the Westbury sim, and around 70 on the Exeter sim. It's looking like there will be around 250 trains passing between the two panels. So I assure you, it's certainly busy.

I'm aiming to have the westbury ready for testing in around three weeks, and Exeter shortly after. Westbury will be tested first, and then Exeter will be amended around it.

Lucas

Not really - there were very few (almost none) NIMBY initiatives back then.

Actually it's not that bad - the needed headway is about 7 minutes which means you totally can put 250 trains at full speed through there. Mixed and slow speed traffic is more of a problem.

The changes in speed are what make it so tight. Between the express trains, the locals and the freight. And of course, the odd engineering or special train.

As a player you'll have to be very careful which order they pass Blatchbridge Jn. The last think you need is for a local via Frome to block the passage of an Express.

Some of the services run at a fixed frequency. For example a local service runs between Westbury and Taunton every half hour between 04:10 and around ten at night, you then have the longer distance trains that aren't so regular, and often have shunting at Westbury and Exeter to get in the way. Platform allocations at Westbury are quite tight, and a late express could miss its slot. It doesn't take much to fill up a three platform station!

is that 125 moves in each direction? or 250 in each, 250 would be quite over the limit on my sums!

That'll be me being a tad slow! I'll try and get a message sent when I get in tonight. At the moment I'm enduring a nice slow trip through Dawlish on a 150. That said, any slower and I may not every get home again!

I know how it feels. 10 minute stop in Dawlish warren only to be overtaken by an HST
or 20mph from waterloo to twickenham last night... http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/W30520/2014/01/11/advanced

It's my fault. I'm known to be Very impatient!

I've also got the bad luck of another 150 for the return. And on Wednesday I'm also on a 150. I dislike the timing!

Sorry, I'm being a tad slow. I'll get around to it (hopefully) tonight.

At the moment all of the local services are in, and there is around 200 of those. Westbury has a local movement every four minutes or so. Now it's the tricky part of working the expresses and freights in. The locals run at a fairly set frequency, and I'm hoping they don't get too repetitive.

Are you still progressing with these timetables? I'm only asking because I've not heard anything.

I'm still looking forward to testing them.
