Apparently, in Westbury SimSig, sending a train through a danger signal (R500 in my case, as the Woodborough GF was throwing a fit) followed by reversed points (i.e. the crossover at Woodborough) sends the train merrily on its way, wrong-railing down the up line as if the points had been left normal. That can't be right! (It passed through the crossover at Heywood Road Jn in the same fashion, too!)

I don't think there is anything wrong here. I am assuming you told a train to pass R500 at danger having operated Woodborough GF and the signal not having cleared when you gave the slot off the GF lever? If this is the case then the sim is working correctly, albeit confusingly. The GF points are only the set going between the Up Goods Loop and the Siding, the set between the Up Main and Up Goods Loop are powered off the panel. To get R500 to clear to the siding, you need the slot from the Ground Frame, AND set a route from R500 to the exit arrow in the siding. If you authorised R500 to be passed at danger with just the ground frame reversed and not the crossover itself, there is nothing to stop the train until it either gets into a Mexican Standoff with a train proceeding normally on the Up Main, or it arrives at W732 ground signal at Heywood Road. The way the ground frames in Westbury sim work is not completely prototypical, but the one at Woodborough is not far from accurate. Peter Bennet is aware of this and has made some modifications to remove the worst of the bugs that were present with them when the sim was converted to loader format. I personally do not like the idea of the points not being seen to move on the panel when the frames are operated, as it induces confusion into situations like the one you described here. On a Western Region panel, the signalman will be able to see that the points are detected in the correct position for any route he has to clear a signal for. Log in to reply |

The problem with your analysis is that the *ground frame* points were normal (in fact, the train was on the main at that point!), but the *crossover* points where reversed, or showing as such at least! Could it be that I would have had to lock the crossover's points reverse to make the move I wanted?

Yes. When requesting a driver to pass a signal at danger, all facing points must be locked in the direction of travel to the next signal or siding. Another way is to "back Set" the route by setting a signal in the opposite direction to lock the points.
