I'd like to suggest that Max tries the Carlisle 1979/80 TT next. It's bad enough playing it when everything runs on time, and with no failures.

Yes I've only been as stressed as I was dealing with this when I last played Carlisle, circa 0500!

Sorry for the double post - editing must have a time limit! Finally done - scorewise I've at least reached 6%, but I've made some monumental mistakes (in my defence it's my first time actually playing Derby properly!) Final Matlock train left at Long Eaton 41 minutes down...! (I do appreciate this is rather down the list of tonight's priorities!) Post has attachments. Log in to view them. Log in to reply |

Slightly behind everyone else, but I've just finished this and managed 16%. Normal passenger service achieved sometime after 2000 except for Matlock branch, which was 2100. I told external boxes to hold all early runners before that time

Thought I'd have a crack at this. The stream of trains from Spondon is insatiable until about 9pm. If doing it again I would get rid of the 10-hour late arrivals from Etches Park / Barton Rivers a lot earlier. I think I got a lot of penalties because it wouldn't let me call up to send trains in (I was ignoring calls), but I sent them in anyway. Really disappointed with the number of incorrect routes I set - would have scored higher without these mistakes. Post has attachments. Log in to view them. No trains removed and no calling patterns amended. Many ales were researched in the name of this task however. Post has attachments. Log in to view them. 20 years of Simsigging Log in to reply |

Funny this thread should be bumped; I was just thinking of maxand, having recently introduced a new player to SimSig and so skimming through his delightfully characterfully written Royston tutorial myself. He is still missed.

Has anybody devised a strategy for this? I've played it a few times with different ideas. My next strategy is going to be immediately emptying Etches Park, as a lot of stuff queuing from Sheet Stores, terminates and goes ECS to Etches Park. The park won't accept anything until they've kicked everything out. Another tactic is probably getting at least three people on the case. One looking after Stenson jct to Kingsbury, one operating the rest of the panel and one looking after arrivals / departures at Etches Park, as well moving freight 'through' Derby. Clay Mills barriers need a 'watchman' to maximise throughput without incurring penalties. Log in to reply |

The best tactic I found is to hold back all trains off SIM until things have settled down a bit. If a train enters late, and then leaves the sim no later than when it entered you don't incur any further penalties. It takes a bit longer to play through to the end but that way you are only incurring late penalties for those trains that are present at the start. It is also a good idea to get the trains out of Etches Park and Barton Mills as soon as you can accommodate them on the Sim without further delays. That way you are not holding up any trains wanting to exit the Sim in these locations while a train is waiting to enter and come out. Log in to reply |
