Following on from your comments Barry, there seems to be other faults & failures with this new website regarding issues with photos. Firstly if you accidentally delete a photo for whatever reason it won't re-upload the photo in a new post. I've just tried that twice & it still won't do it & I've used the same format as I have done before. I think you should receive a message confirming you want to delete for example a photo instead of it just removing it altogether. I tried yesterday o upload a set of 3 other photos all of them .jpg & both times I recevied an error message from the forum & as a result was unable to post them. I've had this happen once before on this new site. The only time I had a problem with the old website similar to this was when I tried to upload a photo which had been saved as a .bmp file, .jpg files never had a problem.

Latest changes: timezones and "Read" flags on forum posts. I can't see a problem with game times but it might have been tied up in the timezone issues. Game time shown is your local time, assuming you're logged in.

I love the time in shoput box, but I have noticed an issue with it,

I posted at test at 1429 and the time showed as 1429 but then for some reason it seams to drop an hour and shows 1329, it seems it is flicking back and forth between the 2 times, as while typing this one moment it shows 1429 then shows 1329 and it switches back and forth

I think I know what's happened - the initial refresh (when you first load the page) is correct but messages added after the page is displayed is not doing the time warp. Separate functions/methods.

Edit - fixed.

Edit2 - no, still issues. The session state is not available in SignalR (which does the live updates of the shout box) so the time offset is obtained from a cookie instead. But that cookie seems to be set later than when the SignalR first fires. Hmm.

There is now an icon on the top notification bar that looks like a mobile phone. This will switch the website into mobile (lite) mode.

How do people find the "swipe" version of the website? I may just remove it if few people like it. Easier to maintain just a mobile and a desktop layout; not a third intermediate level as well.

Users now get an email when somebody subscribes to their games.

Some admin functions improved (not accessible to ordinary users).

Geoff,

I am having lots of trouble writing/reading this text and the very faint Green type. Once submitted it changes to normal readable type.

Interesting bit of behaviour, absolutely consistent over a significant period (I assume it's been happening since the new site went live but it took me a while to notice). Whenever I've read the forum I log out before leaving the site (and I wait until shown as such). But when I return to the Simsig site, I'm shown as logged in!

Have you tried clearing cookies for SimSig.co.uk? I remember that after Geoff had declared this issue as fixed, I had to manually clear my browser's cookies once in order for logging out to actually start working.
Interestingly, the next time I logged in after posting, I had to log in properly. So I'm taking it either Geoff quietly sorted something easy or the cookie somehow got itself deleted - though I don't know how! If the former, I imagined Geoff would know all was now well.
And now it's gone back to seemingly logging me in by default when I land on the site... very peculiar.

Since I'm receiving the green version of the website with Firefox on my phone (Android) by default, I might have to actually give the "proper" mobile version another try for a proper comparison.
Nevertheless, with a few additional CSS tweaks (mainly to make the avatars smaller and to turn word-wrapping back on) I actually find that version of the website quite usable even on a phone and might even prefer it to the "blue" version.

Strangely enough, for me this button is working on Desktop Firefox, but not on my mobile, where it just proceeds to load the green page again.

Thanks for the link. I want to check a couple of things with the people that altered the CSS originally as (a) CSS is a bit over my head; (b) I've made a few tweaks since your post (point A notwithstanding).

Some more fixes now live:
- Attaching an image will now automatically insert BBCode for the attachment to display the image inline.
- Report to moderator function added
- PMs now include the original message (and the recipient - broken for a couple of days)

Sometime this month I have to transfer the website AGAIN due to the US data centre that this website is hosted in by Memset is closing. Sigh. Another day or more spent moving and re-configuring everything. They say "just take an image and upload it to the new data centre." Will it be that simple?!

No problem, I'm no CSS guru either, so there might very well be a better solution to achieving the desired effects.

Geoff,

Just a note to let you know that to me IE11 makes a horrible mess of the Forum site. I do not know what other Members see using IE11 but it is not a good advertisement.

Simsig's Home page displays the Welcome to Simsig at the bottom of the page. The top of this page is blank apart from Ads, In the Latest Posts page the left hand column displays a cut off Ads and nothing else but a list of posts. You need to go to the bottom of a page to compose or reply to a message.

I am using Google Chrome to write this post. It is excellent.

I don't experience any of those issues when using IE11 (As much as it pains me to admit loading the site in IE).

Did you try doing a hard refresh of the page?

I suspect there may be something out of sync in your set up. SimSig,co.uk renders exactly as expected in IE11 and Edge on my system (not that I would use either browser from choice!).

Although it has been fixed in the past, I think a previous problem has recurred. When I am logged in and click on a topic which has "New" postings it seems to be random whether I am taken to the new posting or just to the top of the first page of the topic.

Anyone else seeing that?

There have been no changes to the forum software this weekend. If your browser doesn't scroll to the correct post, please copy the URL from the address bar and what you clicked on to get the link (eg the topic title in the common left bar latest posts, or the Latest Post link in the latest posts page). Thanks.
