I don’t know the exact scenario, but a block automatically going TOL is not unusual

Well I checked the manual to make sure it's not supposed to do it, but there's no mention of it.

Given all the other problems the sim currently has with the passage of trains between Edale and Earles Sidings, I'd say it's not supposed to do it.

Without looking in the real life situation I couldn't tell you, my comment was more as an obiter remark regarding absolute block in general.

As Stephen says, far from unusual. In some cases occupying the TC in advance of the section signal would put the block to TOL; in that case it would remain there until the advance box turned his commutator to TOL and unpegged it. Almost invariably, occupying the berth track circuit (the one in rear of the first stop signal) at the next box would do so. Absolutely always if there was Welwyn Control (although the Western had a strange variant, in which the block would go to TOL when the berth track occupied, then drop to Normal when the berth track cleared - North Pole was certainly set up like that).

Apart from the Welwyn Control situation, there was little consistency, it wouldn't appear in the SB Special Instructions (unless it affected something else that did need an entry) and it was something you learned as part of learning your box(es).
